Someone told me how much silver had increased in value, made me remember my uncle had given me 5oz in 2001. When I went to look about selling, I learned all about the economy over the past few years and thought it would be a good investment. Started adding instead of selling and as time went on I liked the different bullion coins available and I liked being able to become more disciplined and find those good deals. Short version.

Honestly I was watching a minting show one day, and right after that I changed it over to Pawn Stars knowing the show is 100% fake. But the episode when the guy brought in $115,000 worth of silver bars. After seeing those shows, and to me, the beauty of silver, and also the possibly good investing properties of it, I've been hooked ever since

wait wasnt that a few weeks back? if so I take it you just started.

I like your stories, just curious anyone have their money in silver and gold so they wont spend it quickly?

My grandpop used to work as a bridge toll taker, he used to end up with alot of foreign coins he'd give me. Than later I worked for a credit union so I'd see the silver and oddball bills come in and I'd set aside and buy at face for myself. Lately it's combo of I spend money when I have it on my hobbies so I figure I should have a hobby where it might pay off in the long run and also because I now have kids and I think it would be a good hobby/investment for them to have / atleast understand.

I collected a few coins as a kid but got away from it at about age 14 or so. I am an avid investor, though, who has made a good amount of money in the stock market. I've been watching the rise of gold and silver for some time now and wanted to diversify out of paper and into something that government / Fed incompetence can't screw up... unlike all other paper investments. In late 2010, I made my 1st silver buy, a roll of ASEs. Since then, I have added more ASEs, SMLs, 5-oz. SilverTowne bars, and a good amount of 90% silver VF to BU grade pre-1965 US coins. For me, buying silver is not spending money. It is converting paper money into something that has intrinsic value, which is to say REAL money.

Hand poured .9995 silver bars, 10oz and larger are my vice of choice. Thinking of converting a couple of rolls of ASEs for a 1kg or 50oz brick. Back in the day would use my extra lunch money left over at the end of the week and cash it in for 3 or 4 ASEs when they $6-$7/each. Good times. :D

Why did I start stacking bullion? Easy, because I like bullion, I like collecting bullion and finally, I'd rather save in precious metals than a crappy and insulting bank % rate. Also, it's cool!

While that is certainly a possibility, Hagbard, we can also stack some bullion to help ward off plain old everyday inflation. We know that we are getting some of that these days, so putting some fiat into gold and / or silver is a good way to just not play that game.

My dad is leaving me a tidy sum of investment money, and I hope to do the same for my grown kids as well.

I collect Morgan silver dollars for their historic nature and numismatic value. My boys know exactly what I've got and where to find it after I'm gone. They also know what to do with it - it is part of the family trust.

I now collect Silver Eagles for my grand-daughter. I want her to learn and know the value of PM's. She's probably the wealthiest 4-month old kid I know - I've been stacking 'em deep for her.

Yes, same here, only in my case it is my Mom. Losing your parents is a difficult thing that few people look forward to happening. Yes, we can inherit some money this way but it is also a terrible loss.

It's good that you have your kids interested in PM stacking. Could be incredibly handy for them someday. Also good that you are creating a silver hoard for your grand daughter. I'm sure that she will greatly appreciate that one day as well.

I have two grand kids and it would be good to set up a hoard for each of them as well. They are ages 10 and 12 now and this would be a good time to get them interested in coins and PMs.

With this LIBOR scandal breaking out, how could anybody have ANY faith in fiat currency... when unethical and immoral bankers run the world, I prefer not to play monopoly with what they churn out of a printer.
