Quote: There is a "view history" tab on Wikipedia articles so you can view who edited them. This. Their link says View History, but the page title is Coin roll hunting: Revision history. I just noticed that my link does not work, since CCF opens it in a frame. Quote: You can't see who did it, because someone removed it You can still see the two names to which I am referring.

Actually that definition of a coin roll hunter is very true. I doubt that someone wrote it jokingly. I think that most of the people that do it are just pathetic. I have to laugh on here when I read that these people searched $250 in coins and was happy to find one or two silver coina. The gas money and the time wasted that was spent getting and searching for that one or two silver coins (instead of getting a real job) always has cost them more then the coin is worth. Especially when I read that they waste even more expensive gas driving around to different banks returning the used rolls.

Quote: gas I don't get it sometimes. Why do roll hunters drive to banks? Why not walk? On Youtube, some coin roll hunters find nothng after boxes, and still spend gas.

Great way to make friends.
This is a coin forum, for people who collect coins and stamps. You seem to be extremely arrogant. The way I see it, your pursuit of coins is just as pathetic is ours. You must be lazy and have others find and package the coins for you. That premium you pay buys more gas then I will waste in years roll hunting.
That is sad that you will never know what it feels like to make your own discoveries.
It does not matter how much they search, because the initial investment is returned minus a few coins. Sounds like cheap fun to me.
We spend on gas, you spend on profit in a store. Good for you, I am proud.
You can't "waste" time on a hobby.
There are many types of people, they are not all looking for silver, you sound ignorant. The thing about success and money, those with the most generally brag the least.
I personally always find something worth more then face value and collectable. Always.
Want to hear really pathetic?, I like finding old copper coins with a metal detector. My favorite coins are verdisgreen, red and blue.
Find your own fun, you worry to much about what others think.
Clearly you need a job to survive, as you don't posses the mental fortitude it takes to earn a living on your own. If you did you would not be putting these folks down.

This article seems to think that people do roll hunting instead of working. I have a full time job and do roll hunting on the weekends for fun. I'm not losing any time I could be making money at a job, just searching for coins to add to my collection.

For fun, sure. Coin Roll Hunting is not gambling. It's just somewhat risky sometimes as you spend labour and gas for not anything. When I talk about addiction, this is what I mean: If you do roll hunting very frequently, and now I tell you not to do it anymore, would you fell very boring during your weekend? On the other side (for example), if you tell yourself to control your hunting amount of one box of halves (you have two in your house), and you have time, and you don't find anything in the box, would it be true that you would keep on telling yourself to hunt the second, even after trying to control yourelf?

I must be "Super" Pathetic then. I hit the banks/cu's, coin counter machine returns, drive up window ground areas etc. as well as metal detect. Then I roll a few drunk's and then steal the change cup from the blind guy who sells pencils down at the corner. This is "Work" Just funnin on the last two Couple of Fun things to do while roll gathering and metal detecting. Roll's: Put on a nice 3 pc. suit and bring your best leather attache case. Metal Detecting: Just the opposite though with a twist. Wear filthy smelly torn t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. 3 day beard shadow (in my case a half in. beard:) but wear your 18K gold IWC or Rolex if you prefer, watch. At least 3 gold rings and 3 silvers, Gold bracelet on the other wrist, 600 gram 14K necklace with a St. Gaudens dangling from the middle of it. You will get some attention, then have some fun with it Oh, just in case have your CCW (legally) Last but not least pull up to the park or beach or ? area in your lincoln, caddy, ferrari or ? Have a FUN day

You are not alone, Indian1... I collect coins, I roll search, and I detect. I have noticed that being smartly dressed when picking up rolls makes a difference as to the teller's attitude. I like messing a little with people's heads too, like going into a coin shop for the first time dressed scruffily, then dropping a few hundred on a nice certified coin! Priceless to see the range of expressions and emotions from the time you walk in until you leave! And I've pulled a similar stunt to the one you describe when going detecting, except my watch of choice is a Breitling and I drive a BMW, hehehe...

I sold my vintage Omega Ranchero, though I doubt many looky Lou's would notice it or appreciate it. Now I'm just rockin an old stainless Swatch cause it's rugged and cheap.
I have to get my buddy to drive me metal detecting lately, but I have around a hundred man-hours left until my vintage Porsche is restored. I just need to finish up some interior work and then I'm ready to load shovels in it again. lol It's not the best but it's paid for.
Anyhow I'm sorry if I came across a little defensive in my earlier posts.

Islander2010 you certainly have the right attitude about coin hunting because it is a hobby for most of us! You will find me cruising coin stores in dress down apparel as well. If only there was a store close enough for me to ride up on my bike! When someone ridicules me for coin collecting, I often think about how much time and money they spend on video gaming.
