hey guys! nice finds.
I got over $50 in change from the reject tray from my dump bank! 3 1943 pennies, foreign coins of several countries, and I haven't even searched the coins yet!
Do you guys know what I might be able to do with my canadian coins? I got a ton of em...brand new and older, all denominations

I have Canadian Cents as early as 1920 that I found in circulation years ago.
Perhaps a testament that our border is open, after all?

The 1920 cent is the earliest year that you can still possibly find in circulation in Canada. (sort of like our equivalent to the first year of the Indian Head cent) Before 1920, we had larger pennies. The earliest Canadian pennies I seem to be able to find with any consistency are from the 1940s. |

I find wheats in CDN rolls all the time. I had got some US boxes when I was in the states one time and boy was I disappointed. I only found 5 wheats per US box. I don't do that any more.

Ya I have done 3 boxes of pennies and have found 17 wheats so far. Also today we (my wife and I) had a good search through 1 box. Filled up a lot of holes in our canadian penny album in the 40's and 50's. Also found 7x1920 1928 5x1932 and 1939. Was a good day! We just started and we have everything from 1940 to date with 3 exceptions and have a few from 1921 to 1938. Pretty good start. We have all the coppers from those 3 boxes as well, were thinking of maybe doing 2 albums. We have many multiples of each year pretty much so we could fill it up almost to the same point if we wanted too.

I had an awesome find last week. My bank lady called telling me she had what looked to be old pennies. I went down and bought the $25 that she got from the guy. Almost 300 pre 1959 CDN, 30 wheats, 3 foreign with 1 being silver. I was very happy.

Wow, some great stories on this thread. Yesterday I got my first 1943 steel penny. Was really excited about that, it was in a case of dimes though.lol Not as good as return on investment but will take it. I recently got a box of pennies that I just started going through. Looks like a lot was rolled in 2004 as that is the neest coin in there and are almost in au condition(note I don't really know how to grade, they are really shinny with no damage). Haven't got too many oldies though yet. One George VI and a lot of 64-53. Anyone else experience getting rolls that seemed to be rolled years ago?

I've had rolls before where the oldest coins were in the 70's. And shiny as well.
I'm not good with grading yet either. It will come.

There is supposed to be a coin club that goes from sept to june up here in the north, I'm hoping when they start up I can go and get some help with grading. There are no coin stores or anything like it otherwise for me to get experience grading.
Coin chick, how did you get the relationship to the point where they call you when they find what looks to be old coins?

I'm in the same boat as you. I live in a rural town. No coin shops or collectors.
The good thing is that being a small town you get to know people. I started just by asking for rolls for searching. The more I went in the more curious they became. They asked what I was doing and I told them I collected coins. At that point I was looking for pennies and nickels. It has now got to the point where if any old bills, 50 cent, dollar coins come in they call me. They asked for a list of what I was looking for so I gave them a basic one. They also order me weekly boxes of pennies.
I try to thank them with candy and flowers but I try to be careful with how much info I give them. I don't want them to start taking the goodies.
They are a slower bank so they are bored.
