To me that is a $129 gamble that I would not be willing to take.

Quote: To me that is a $129 gamble that I would not be willing to take. Yup, gotcha. Maybe that's why I was the only bidder. Sometimes, though, you need to take a gamble to get a good deal, and I can afford to gamble $129. Again, though, keep in mind that I bought this strictly as an upgrade for my 7070 album, where I prize details above anything else (well, other than authenticity, of course). If I were buying it as an investment, I doubt I would have taken the chance.

Yeah, but 4 ounces of silver would look pretty strange in my 7070 album, doncha think?

It's a gamble, but there is no way of knowing whether is was a good one or not until you see it in hand. The only things I can say from those pictures is that it is a B-2 which is an R-2 coins and that it will look nothing like the auction images.

A strong VF for a reasonable price. The die breaks are interesting, a plus in my book. Enjoy!

It appears to be cleaned with around VF-30/35 details. Just checking online, a few of these have sold for around $110.

Is that a die break or a scratch running through the shield on the reverse? Agree that the photos are really off, I doubt that it will look anything like that and that the photo editing could be hiding harsh cleaning. Still could be worth it, $129 doesn't buy very much of a Capped Bust quarter these days and this one has the potential to be nice .... but its not a risk I would personally take.

You'll have 14 days to return it if you don't like it. It looks a little pricey at $130. It has VF+ details and looks cleaned and re-colored.

All right, the coin came today and I have new pictures: It has obviously been cleaned at some point and there is some colorful retoning going on, but it really doesn't look too bad and the details are nice, which is all I really care about for my 7070 album. I can't tell whether all the lines are scratches or die breaks, to be honest. None of them are visible to the naked eye (at least not to my naked eye), but they certainly do stand out in the macro photographs, don't they? As to grade, I'm gonna go with VF30 details on this. Even if the old cleaning knocks the value down a notch or two, I still think I made out pretty well for $129.99. Unless somebody sees something that I don't that would raise further red flags, I think I'll definitely be keeping it.

OK, here's something interesting. I was looking at past auctions on ebay to see if I could find a similar coin and I found this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...230820541782 It seems to have the exact same die cracks as mine. In fact, for a second there I thought it was the same exact coin, except the "25C" on the reverse is more worn than mine. It also doesn't have the toning mine has and perhaps has not been cleaned, but it looks to be about the same grade and sold for $290...

I like it. The other one looks to be a grade or two higher then yours. I like yours better even, that large scratch on the reverse is pretty distracting.

You got lucky Barry, the coin is better than I thought it would be. Sometimes being a gambler pays off. This last coin you used as an example is a couple grades higher but was also cleaned. And like you said, has the same die cracks as yours. Nice add to your 7070.

That's very gracious of you to say, IGE. I'm certainly happy with it!

The cleaning job on that second coin is much more severe looks almost like a small Dremel was used.
