nima_mj2002 : fake coin, the portrait design and the edge denticles are not correct. (this is an easy one, you can see that by comparing it to a genuine one)

"They" threw some toning on this specimen (even factoring in the yellowish lighting)... useful for study purposes to get an idea of what should look odd when the design isn't cartoonish and you have to go to secondary features: http://www.ebay.com/itm/schwere-Sil...321129674471

This coin is another fake, it has the same "off" portrait style (among other things)

Those are Spanish Carolus III 1 escudo and 1/2 escudo. The 1 escudo is from Madrid, essayer MF. It's in a very nice condition with a superb color :) Value ... hum, without my catalog, I'd say between 150/200 USD. The other is from Sevilla, essayer C. Around 150 USD.
Both look genuine to me, congratulation :)

Thanks a lot, MathieuMa! I have 10 coins or so more I'd like to get information on, but will make separate topics for those.

That 1801 is the most common of the VERY bad fakes. It is an IN COLLAR strike. It has a REEDED edge. It is also VERY underweight. Some are magnetic but none are silver and they are worthless. Always look closely at what you have - the 1801 does not look like any original Portrait 8R ever actually made. You need to know this before you spend any money. Hint for beginners - If you can not tell at a glance that the 1801 Portrait coin featured in this thread is a forgery please study more until you can tell QUICKLY and without a doubt. Do not buy any coin until you KNOW what originals actually look like. Just use one of the internet search engines to find pictures then STUDY them. Sign up for the Heritage website and use their archive of photographs of coins. Best source I am aware of to see several examples of almost any coin you want to check.
