Of the two, I'd prefer the tetradrachm. If the price is over $200, there are nicer of both general types currently on Numismall. I'd prefer a siglos with the bow on flan since we call him an archer. There are several variations of both coins. Are you interested in these exact types or would any running king or any cista do?

Jerry, I like both, but you're suppose to be on the wagon like me.

From the screen, both look genuine to me.
Ask both sellers about provenance. It may help you decide. Due diligence never hurt anyone.
Which coin would best serve your collection as it currently stands?

Coins of great antiquity intrigue me, but the larger coin has greater visual impact. I have an example of each, but both of these are better than mine.

Have a look on VCOINS for comparative prices. Both types should have similar available for sale.

Eng5858 => yes, he said he'd post it again once it gets a bit closer to the first NFL game (once he gets the desired amount of players, he gets rid of it so he doesn't have to continually tell people that he already has enough guys) ...

echizento => wow, Southeastern Washington State sounds amazingly different than Northwestern Washington State!! ... it most be the rugged coast that brings-on the rain?

dougsmit => yes, both coins are hovering around the $200 mark (I admit that when I looked around for other examples on Wildwinds that the Siglos looks nicer with the bow on flan ... but I also thought that the banker's mark kinda made-up for the lack of the bow? ... I may keep looking for alternatives, but I was merely interested in finding out the opinions of our coin gang => people always seem to love giving their Two Cents when it comes to spending other people's money, right?

sel_69l => asking the provenance of the coins is a good idea (it is always nice/interesting knowing who previously owned the coins and maybe even a wee bit o' history of the coin's travels) ... NOTE => I have previously bought several coins from both of these sellers, but I admit that I feel more confident about the Siglos for it comes from "my guy" ...

Bing => I haven't bought either coin ... "yet"

doug's opinion makes it all tied-up once again, 4-4

Thanks for the coin comments, brothers (I always appreciate your opinions)

I would go for the siglos its very nice for the type and age. They are rarely found that nice looking. The tet is nice to but you might be able to find a better example in the future. Go siglos!

I'd choose the Siglos. Very old and pretty nice for the age, not as nice looking as the tetra, but still appealing.

Hey, I didn't realize Eng5858 lived up here too!
That makes like three or four of you that live there I think? Must be a nice place I'm on the complete opposite side of the country from you guys, in Florida. Here right now it is strong heat but with the recurring summer rainstorm.

Thanks for your comments, Ancientnoob & ValiantKnight ...

Well, looks like Siglos managed to dominate the final leg of the race, 6-4 and pulling away!!

NOTE => dougsmit, I did try to search around for a nicer Siglos in this same value-range, but couldn't find one that I liked as much as my OP version ... however, I did see a few nice cista Tets that were probably as nice, or nicer than the OP version, but I too think that I am more drawn to the incuse square coin and its history) ...

=> *yikes* => "Numismall" is a dangerous new toy for stevex6!! (today was the first time that I've wandered around that place) ... Bing, it's kinda like giving a six year old boy a loaded shotgun (what's the worst thing that could happen?!!)

The cool ocean moderates the summer temps. It's much drier in E.WA because the Olympics and Cascades squeeze out the moisture of air moving east. Congrats Steve--you made a good choice!

Thanks DVC ... yah, I know that you love the good ol' Greek coins

=> man, I seem to be getting a real Jones-on for the incuse square coins!!? (they just seem so primitive and super-cool, no?)

... oh, and I hope that you guys on the good ol' West Coast enjoy a great "70-80" degree summer (it sounds perfect) ... it is close to 90 degrees here in the Canadian shield (ugly, sweaty hot) ... amazingly, I actually missed the snow when I was mowing the lawn this afternoon (please ridicule me in a month or so when snow may actually start falling) ...

Thanks for everything

Bing => sorry, but you're on your own => sadly, I hurled myself off of the wagon, once again!!

Good ol' Siglos is comin' home to Northern Manitoba for only $210 (delivered) ... I thought that sounded reasonable? ...

=> HEY, thanks for your input and/or advice, fellas ... oh and hey => if I didn't happen to back your horse, don't be sad, for I still have my feelers-out for a Sweet Soul Cista-TET ... hey, and if any of you happen to stumble across a nice version of this coin in the $200-$300 range, then please give me an e-mail, okay? ... that would be awesome!!

... thanks again (and again)

Steve, I'm disappointed. I really expected you to buy both of them.

Mine:

Now that you have made the plunge, it may be time for you to look for the other two types (yours is like my second but there are many of #3 available online at present). The rare ones are the fractions but people pay more for the full sigloi.

One more glass o' wine and I may have pulled the trigger for both coins, but luckily I scampered-away with only one needless coin in hand ...

=> I think that all of your coins are gorgeous, but like a proud PaPa, I now look at mine and think that it runs a little bit faster and throws its spear a little bit more accurately than your coins ...

anyway => thanks dougsmit ... I admit that I didn't realize that there were 3 types of this same coin ... however, knowing me, I will probably continue to gather a few more coins that I don't have before I start to specialize in "siglos-ville" ... but again => "thanks"
