Hello, There is too big a space on the opposite side as one would expect. I'd like to find out the mechanics of the edge lettering machine so I could physically understand how this could happen.

I'm trying to get a feel for how common some of the errors are on the Washingtons. as you stated: Quote: I've looked at thousands of these edges now Was wondering how many you found out of that many. I have gone thru 6 rolls and found 26 errors of varying degrees, mostly filled S and moled chin type.

Hi tomb, I don't always look at coins as closely as I should because often I have thousands I need to look at and limited time to do so. I just started yesterday looking closely at the edges and taking a little more time. I'm not familiar with those two varieties you stated (fill me in!). I don't get out the magnifying glass until I see something with my eyes first. I had another coin posted on the forum that was a dropped and reversed letter G that was raised on the edge of the coin. So far those are the only two major errors I've found. I have found a few die cracks though.

That is a neat error! I have been finding different errors, and look forward to a "formal" list of known errors.

Just a note to those interested. Ken potter is doing some documentation on the different types of errors coming to light on the new edge inscriptions. It can be found in the Numismatic News. I'm hoping to get my coin included in one of the articles as an example.

It would be great if it ends up being rare! How are you storing the coin? I the only error I have found is the backward edge. I've found several in the one roll I got so I'm assuming it's a common error or variety. Has anyone gotten the silver dollars yet? How do they look?

Hello thingee, I just have in a 2x2 right now. I'm told my pictures I sent out of it are in a Numismatic News article by Ken Potter that gives a list of some of the errors found on the edge lettering. I don't have a copy yet and haven't read the article, so I'll post again when I have more details.

Hello, I finally found out which article the error coin appeared in. The coin is in the March 27 issue of Numismatic News. Page 32. An article by Ken Potter discusses errors being found on new dollar coin edges. I'm mentioned by name (Garrett Reich) and the picture I submitted on this thread is the same one that appears in the article. Now I just need to figure out how to sell the coin for the best price. Suggestions or offers welcome.
