I'm still learning to grade the Lincoln Cents. I thought MS65, so when I scrolled down and saw that Susan thought 65 too, I was happy.
Nice coin, Dave.

Since this topic is loading very slow, the enlarged photo is staying up for much longer. Do I see two pretty big dents on the obverse rim at 6 o'clock?

Regardless, I have a feeling in hand this would be "red" wouldn't it? I see red/brown in the picture, but is it bright red in hand? Of course I didn't look at what has been graded out there on the PCGS website, and if this would be a 67 as I thought, you'd have the only known example if it were graded at that. Oh well. Guess I should have looked at the possibilities prior to trying to grade.

I'd have to agree with triggersmob and susan, it looks to be a MS65.

Very nice coin dave ,, and a tough year to find an example like this in.

The reverse accounts for only about 20% of the overall grade ,, with lincolns bust being the major grading point,, this coin is extremely clean with only the two hits on the rev.

One of them however is on an element of the coins design . the other in the upper field area.the obverse may have a little bit of something on lincolns forehead (this is the one that will keep the coin down in grade )

This coin by old standards would more than likely only grade as MS-65,, but it would not surprise me to see it slab at 66 RD in todays market grading system based on the year and strike this coin is a very superior example.

You were an opinion I was waiting for, Metalman. I think my camera/lighting setup is a little optimistic about the coin's color - in daylight it's a little darker - so I'm hoping to see MS66RD from PCGS when I submit. That would make it Top Pop for the color, with a 5/0 population.

65 will still work, investment-wise. I actually got this one for less than I paid for the Silly Head I posted in the Main Forum.

Dave can you tell what that is on the forehead ?

Part of it looks raised and part of it looks incused ,, I'm wondering if it is not a clashed die,, If you look at the reverse it appears that some of Lincolns curls may be showing right below the R and I ,, if its a clash the coin has a real shot at 66,, if its damage then 65 is more realistic. As for color,, the grader will have to determine that in hand ,, but in the pics RD is my opinion.

Wow, nice image, nice coin, and a very nice close-up! If you do get it into an MS-67 slab, remember that the original seller would likely appreciate a small commission .

Clashed die would be in the fields. Perhaps struck thru.
Very nice coin.

SuperDave,
Is this a purchased coin or are you contemplating buying it? Either way, in my mind, that coin is magnificent !!! Great camera work on the obverse to show the forehead... Good luck with it SuperDave,
Berry

Whatever it is on the forehead it is not damage and that should put this coin into a 66 pretty easily but its possible that it will only receive a 65 from the TPG's it seems that standards are fairly tight for these coins,, keep in mind that PCGS by their color standards only allow 5% for full red,, anything under that will get a RB designation.

It wont make 67 because of the two small hits on the reverse.

That's not a close-up, it's the actual image size of the whole coin. The actual size of that pic is 2190 pixels.

Canon 350D with a Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro, 1/160 obverse and 1/200 reverse @ f14, illuminated by 3-50w MR16 halogens on goosenecks in a track. My setup is space-limited, and I can't quite sneak the light up under the upper rim yet. The next project is to cut and splice the track into a "V," and then I'll be able to put full illumination on the coin from 360 degrees.

I'll never be Mark Goodman, but if I can match TrueView I'll be happy.

My honest opinion is that this will grade as an RB coin. If it makes 67, it'll be a Pop 1/0, and I don't know if I'll be able to bring myself to sell it and give the original seller (wonder who that was ) the commission he so richly deserves. Even MS66RB would be Pop 5/0, and it'd still be a fruit coin.
