If it is silver on the front and copper on the back, it's a Magician's coin.

I have a few with two of the same side (such as a Buffalo nickel with two buffalos, instead of a "heads" and a "tails" (I know thare are better terms... "observe" and "reserve" perhaps? Are those also magicians coins? Sorry to hijack your thread...

Yes, those are Magician's coins, too. Now, if a coin is all of a single metal, and one side is struck with the image of the wrong coin, because of the wrong die being placed in the press at the mint, that is called a "mule."

Quote:I have a few with two of the same side (such as a Buffalo nickel with two buffalos(sic), instead of a "heads" and a "tails" (I know thare(sic) are better terms... "observe" and "reserve" perhaps? The more correct numismatic terms would be obverse and reverse. (sic) = spelling incorrect (buffaloes and there) Ed ANA LM-3175

sic: "thus"; in full: sic erat scriptum, "thus was it written" Used when quoting incorrect spelling, grammar, etc. so they are not seen as transcription errors.

Is this fake Thanks jbuck. I want to thank everyone for their information. For years I wonder what it was.

Is this a fake? What made me wonder for years is the year of the coin. 1917 and someone had the sense to make it into a magican's coin. This coin looks so fragile. I need a good camera or have to learn how to take a good picture of this coin.
