Nice nab off of ebay! Is that gouge in the left of the bar from a test to be sure it was solid silver?

That is def legit I have seen them before and they always go for a premium. Remember who your best friend on here is when or if you want to sell :)

Ah an old gateway bar

Seen a few of these in my time. From what I know the bar is canadian, early 70's. It was not a huge refinery very small. Could not compete with the big boys in canada johnson matthey and mallory and engelhard. A beautiful piece for the hardcore bullion collector. I believe they made 1 3 5 7 10 20 25 50 AND 100 ounce bars.

Good to see you and tbk both posting its been pretty quiet here lately

I tend to get reprimanded here a lot lately so I haven't posted much.

I've seen these once or twice, at my local show, they carry a hefty premium per ounce.

Okay, I give. Why would a particular bar carry a hefty premium. I clearly don't understand.

hawk, do you buy from ebay and than try to re-advertise it to make a profit? I am curious about flipping some of the stuff that I have purchased

silver itll depend what you bought things for. Of course you can always list things for whatever you want and hope to get lucky. Worse case you lose a free listing for the month

I believe these are from the 1960's. I don't deal in collectable silver so I really don't know anything about that side of the market. I know you like them Hawk and must do pretty well with them.

Just watch out for the old and rare Chinese silver bullion. Most of these items are not old, not bullion and contain little to no silver.

Flipping PMs to make money. It can be done but it carries far too much risk for me. What I mean is looking to make money in a short amount of time by flipping.

I had more than a few friends loose out during the last up tick in the market. Some have not recovered they bought way too much mostly on credit then paid the price when everything fell. They thought they could by then flip fast.

Great input all and thanks....

And yes, quick flip is nothing more then playing poker, a real gamble. But I have learned I usually break even worse case most often, and sure I have lost a little from time to time, but often make a fair/miniscule profit here and there and really do it more for the love of holding such rare cool pieces, if not just for a limited short time, and even with an occasional blank the bed buy, I am still treading water for now anyway....

With the way silver is moving, I plan to move this in a couple of weeks, and we will see what happens....

I did grab this on bay at 975, hefty at 39 per oz., WAY to high, but you know with silver over 32 when I bought it and its rarity, I fell I could have done worse....

Better shots of this new Gateway with scale wine tool for reference. A longer/flatter design then the old pour Academy bars I instantly noticed and I really like its dimensions, more like a bar of soap with wider base then top of course....

Hi all,
I have a 100oz gateway bar being mailed to me. I'm struggling to figure out if it's related to the above bar/company or something completely different. Mine appears to have been made in the early 80s according to the included warranty. Until it arrives, this is the only picture I have of it. Any information would be appreciated.
