When I see the design on the Barber Series, the word strong comes to mind, and, while I don't think of myself as a "Barber Nut", I do like the series, and I have collected them over the years (date and mint mark) - lower grade (G4 and VG-8). I started with the Barber halves, and, once I completed that set, I moved on to the Barber dimes. When that set was complete, I moved on to the Barber quarters, and I ran smack dab into a roadblock - well, actually three roadblocks.....the 1896-S, the 1901-S, and the 1913-S. The price being asked for any one of those three is a mite high for this old country boy - I don't think of anything as impossible, and I might get them someday, but, I don't think it'll be anytime soon.

LogPotato, I love that NO half. Very nice.
I am also a BCCS member, even though I really dont collect Barbers. I just enjoy the reading material!
Only barbers I own are the half and the quarter in my type set.

Try working on the halves when silver price was low, then back to the dimes when it went up. Started working on the pieces with higher numismatic value, but owning the complete 3 sets would be cost prohibitive for me. I like coins in circulated condition, at least VG if the cost is high, but BU coins just don't stroke my crank. To me there's more history in a coin that's passed through hands. Sparks the imagination.

Couldn't agree more. I will pick a circ coin over an UNC coin anyday.

I remember when I bought my Barbers 5-6 years ago; I insisted on having the 1913, '14 and '15 Philly halves - and I got all three on the same purchase on ebay for like $300, all in G6 or so. Also got a good deal on a 1916 Barber quarter in F12 - the highest-grading Barber in my collection.

This is my collection of Barber half dollars, took me over two years to compile this set. The hunt was fun but the pocket suffered a little.

very nice, have you thought about upgrading the 1906 though? It is a common date and looks a bit out of place.

I am not a Barber nut per se, but I do collect them. I have 36 of the dimes, about 6 halves and a few of the quarters. VACookey has a bunch of the dimes as well and a smattering of halves and quarters. I am concentrating more on completing my modern Danscos and working on my large dollar run right now. Once I get the moderns done, I will put more emphasis on the Barbers.

I am collecting the 3 sets also ; although I haven't actively sought any out for 6 months, I've picked up about 12 total in that time. Love the circs also.

Matthew, I was also at the meeting in Manchester NH. I was in the back of the room. John Frost and Steve Crain did a great job. at the next show I will formally introduce myself. I have started collecting Barber coins all over again. I will be joining the BCCS as soon as possible. CC-Loosechange

And I was also in the back of the room, eating a sandwich and trying to munch the potato chips as quietly as I could! Remember Steve's explanation of the large and small date 1837 Half Dimes? Well, I didn't! I bought a nice example on Saturday. It was mislabeled! I must have absorbed his talk, though, as I did do well. He explained to me what variety is is.
