Ok so I made my first large purchase, I am splitting up and ordering inbatches.
I ordered 75 1 oz silver maple leafs and one 1 oz canadian maple leaf.

Paid by check with ampex so will have them ina few weeks.

I wanted the 100 gram pamp swiss dragon, it wasnt in stock and I think I would become to attached to it and not want to sell it eventually. I also think rounds are easy to store.

thanks all

Cool! I was wondering why you would buy just one silver Maple Leaf...

Not to put you down at all but I personally think you should keep buying in small incrememts. You will learn a lot more about the whole process if you make a lot of smaller purchases than a few large ones. $100 face in dimes is a lot of dimes. what was your plan to do with them?

I'm not trying to answer for Zelda but I also have a $100 bag of pre-1965 dimes that I bought with the idea in mind of using them as barter items and for making change from larger silver coins when making small trades. Might use them, might not but they seem handy to have. If not, then I will just continue to store them and use them as an inflation hedge. Eventually, they will be passed down to other family members. I also have quarters and half dollars for similar reasons.

Unless youre talking about an online site its really impossible to answer. Every store will have a different price structure/interest level/owner.

The dimes are for exactly that, an emergency hyperinflation situation .

Im looking for brick and mortar coin stores, and although each store would be a different case, I'm looking for experiences of people who sold precious metals and old coins to coin shops, and what their experience was like.

Personally I would sell on craigs list if possible. You have the ability to get closer to spot price. ebay would be my second choice. if you are selling to a dealer you will probably only get 75% spot if that.

That is entirely possible. This is the time when a good relationship with a local dealer can really pay off. The dealer will value a good long-term customer and will know that s/he does not need to make all they are going to get from any one transaction. Because of that, they can and will often offer a better deal than another dealer who does not know you.

Wanted to chime in since its been a few months.

My stacking is underway I have in varius forms
1.975 ounces of gold and
115.45 ounces of silver.

Off to a decent start I think.

Most of the silver is in maple leafs I am at 100 oz with those, I've been buying a few AE's a month until I hit 100oz with those and fractional gold. I want to have 1 oz of gold for every 25 oz of silver. I'm  a bit behind in the gold but I'm in no rush.

I see now that this is an old thread, but if I were to drop 14k to start with, it would look something like this. Now that this is in my shopping cart, so tempting...

I've been iffy about platinum and palladium once I hit my personal goals I may change that up. I decided not to invest the entire 14k I did half for now and kept the other half in emergency savings. Every month I've been buyin metals in place of savings until I hit the amount I put in savings.
