Get the higher denominations now before the cost of gold makes them too expensive.

Of course, after I did that the price of gold dropped a couple of hundred dollars...

Personally, I'm waiting nearly indefinitely. I polan on doing it, absolutely. But with the economy so far behind Gold prices, it's not economic of my time (value of hours worked = $) to buy gold righ tnow. Either the economy needs to recover, Gold come down, or I strike it rich.

I have one $2.5 to not have a blank page, and thats where I'm sitting for now.

If I were to do it right now, I would try to start with $10 and $20 peices. Get the biggest ones out of the way. Like starting with the Key of a series and working back from that.

Plus with the large denominations, isn't there less of a mark up value?

The only hesitation I would have with gold is, if the price gets below $1,000 per ounce, then the value of the gold coins will come down quite a bit, since most sell near bullion price, right now.

My next move would be to purchase the indian half eagle. Not only because I am partial to half eagles and the indian is my favorite gold coin; but also since you already have the liberty, you could complete the "half eagle" portion of the type set. Still semi-affordable and you get a decent chunk of gold for your buck. I think the best balance of grade vs. value is right around the AU-58 area for the gold type set. JIMHO.

Save for the bigger ones first. I did my page about 5 years ago. I couldn't do it now ..so who knows where gold will be in the 17 months it will take you to finish your page.

I was going to strive for an MS-60+ gold page, but...I may aim a little lower to include AU55+.

Eye appeal is going to be the deciding factor.

Nothing wrong with nice AU55+ coins. You can get them closer to bullion value and they still have a nice look to them.

I'd go MS for a slabbed set, but AU for an Album.

I like to know my coins have seen some use, but that is just my preference.
