Why do people even need permits to protect their lives and livelyhood? It's a human right not to be victimized for any reason. Just keep your eyes peeled and don't be an easy target. Always keep a notepad on you.

Awful. One reason I'd probably never become a dealer.

Cookey the Annandale show have had a string of people get followed home. Some have been robbed other have had their stuff stolen from the car when they went into the house. I stay away from that one

I recommend a safety deposit box at the bank. Far cheaper than insurance. And if your house was to burn down or get robbed, you would probably have to end up suing the insurance company to get them to pay you back. That is my experience.

Quote: Why do people even need permits to protect their lives and livelyhood? You do not need a permit to have or even have a gun with you as long as you are (I think 21, used to be 18) here in NC, you just have to have a permit to buy and conceal

Quote: I am sooo glad I live where I do and don't have to resort to the use of a firearm to protect what is mine I personally know someone who lives near Brisbane (I think) that was just robbed. Not robbed of coins, but robbed. In any event, some people think Americans are just shooting each other left and right. It's not that bad, but extra protection, in the form of firearms, is nice. Almost nobody ever has to use them (on another person at least), but it gives people piece of mind. To be fair, many in America don't support that point of view, however I do personally.

Its also important to remember most of the shootings that happen are from either illegal guns or people that werent supposed to have them in the first place. Those would happen regardless. If you dont care about killing someone else you certainly wont care if a gun is illegal to have

Not only coin dealers. Up in the Philly area the winners leaving the casinos are being followed home and robbed. One guy is watching the cashiers cage when winners check out then signals the guys outside. They robbed close to 10 people in a week or so. Bad all over. Just my thoughts edgman

Same thing was going on in Southern Indiana Casinos (25 miles east of Cincinnati). In Kentucky, you now have the right to carry a loaded weapon in the glove box or console of your car. If I lived in a state without the conceal/carry permit, I would have to do so anyway and take my chances, or move. Face it: The cops can't be every where at once. One has the right to protect themselves.

Well I'm definitely going to start taking a roundabout way home after attending coin shows.

i live in Canton, Ohio and its terrible here for break ins. my coin dealer Fred has owned his store since the 50's, and its only gotten worse. He has had to install new security and bullet proof glass. That honestly makes me want to get a large safe for my collection, and insurance on it. Its sickening that people will take things that give others enjoyment. I can honestly say I will be investing in a safe to keep these terrible people out.

Also for all you dealers out there remember you guys are also targeted at shows. A blanket or a lining to your box to keep the inventory hidden on the way out would be well advised or even putting your cases in an old moving box or something and be aware on the way home or way back to the shop.
Some people dont like guns and thats definitely your right, but even without them theres a lot of little things you can do to keep the attention off you and make it more difficult to be robbed. Robbers want easy scores, but if they see you walk out with a box full of visible gold or graded coins theyll think high value and put more money into it. If you do like guns or have them a lot of states let you carry in the car without a concealed permit as long as the gun is visible aka on the seat next to you. Check with the state of the show and the local laws first though
