I agree, I will eventually store a portion of my collection in an album.
However, if I intend to preserve my banknotes for several decades, I believe I need to place them in a controlled environment such as a box with a set humidity in it and as air tight as possible. I mean, otherwise, won't banknotes stored in an album still be exposed to the humidity and possibly get damaged after some time ?

Quote: Ziploc bags I wouldn't suggest that. Ziploc bags are probably made with chemicals that will damage the notes over time.

I do not. However, a lot of plastics are made using PVC which will damage Notes, and coins over a period of time.

The use of zip lock bags for coin and currency storage have been discussed before here at CCF and other forums. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=62973BaanosThere are a lot of topics on currency storage just here at CCF. Do some searches and you should see them.

Okay, I've done a little research on google and the problem with ziploc bags is that they are cheap. I would worry about tears and eventually air leaking into them.
Now that being said, I already have a polypropylene box and decent quality sleeves. I don't see how ziploc bags can't improve my setup in any way.

Off topic, I saw $2000 Vietnamese Dong on the top of your stack. I did not know it's collectible. How did you acquire it?

I don't know if it's collectible, but I'll collect anything that's UNC. I got it last September from a bank in Vung Tau, Vietnam upon asking a teller really nicely. I was lucky as most tellers who we asked thereafter turned us down.

Banknotes should be stored in Mylar sleeves, the same way that valuable stamps are stored. The only thing different is the size of the sleeves. I would not store banknotes in any other way. The sleeves are manufactured to be part of the album page, which are kept in ring back folders as with coins.

I'm going the Mylar sleeve route, personally. Most of the notes I buy are in them already, and I bought an extra stack of 100 for any notes I find "in the wild."

I use mylar holders for non-graded notes and keep them in a photo archival box I got at the container store.
