I don't believe un-searched rolls exist so I don't buy em and especially paying a premium for em on E-bay.

fistfulladirt I would love to go metal detecting. It is illegal in Illinois.
However, there are MD clubs and they sell the equipment so there's a loophole I don't know about.

I've heard it said before, I don't think their is such a thing as an unsearched roll. In searching bank rolls, I can determine how much silver is in a roll by weighing the roll. I think all roll sales on ebay are marketed so carefully so you can't really prove they are scamming you. I get my "unsearched" rolls from the bank for face value.

well said everything I can tell you if a roll definatly has no silver in it without opening wich is probably what they are doing but people still buy them.

I wouldnt buy an "unsearched" roll on ebay, imo it's a waste of money that could be used to buy the exact coin you want, but I admot some of those rolls are tempting but probably too good to be true.

Buddy, where did you hear it is illegal in Illinois? Maybe it is illegal on state property, but I would think that it is legal in other public areas unless the town or county has a law against it. Private property should also still be legal.

Sorry -- missed your reply -- apparently for a whole week.
Anyway, I have been digging up stuff in my own yard for twenty years. I got interested in metal detecting and looked online to see what was allowed and where I could go do it. And I saw some law that said it was illegal except on private property -- so I could MD all over my itty-bitty yard.
What I read seemed strange to me so I checked with my sister, the judge, and she said it was in fact illegal.
I've never seen anybody doing it here -- ever.
It's too bad. But like I wrote before, there are MD clubs in IL (none near me) so they must go somewhere. I suppose that they get permission to go searching on farm fields during the non-growing season.

ebay rolls are fine, as long as you pay a maximum of 5 cents per coin INCLUDING shipping. They will not be "unsearched" as such rolls really do not exist.

WOW. Yeah, I didn't want to flip it over to see if it was an S-VDB so I could sell it for a hundred times more, so here you go. 30 bucks. Where do you guys usually find your hauls when metal detecting? I know there's a forum for this but just briefly, where do people hunt?
