@GR58, I do gaze at the proof half often but I would do the same if I had a 1932 $10 gold eagle. That coin still is on my needs list.

Lots of people with trouble choosing just one coin, maybe we need to revisit a top 12 thread again. I remember threads on 20th century and 19th century but I don't know how to link them.

This isn't a coin, but it is very much my current favorite...it's a 1904 Zurich Swiss shooting medal. (Sorry for the crummy photos.)

Very attractive bust on that medal... I always like to see helmeted portraits on coins : As to my favourite... well its very hard to choose but I have 1 odd tudor coin in my collection which is by no means the most valuable but for some reason seems special to me. Its a silver sixpence from Elizabeth I... a hammered coin that is old enough to be a relic yet young enough to be from recent history.

Thanks! This medal is extremely hard to get a hold of (ant cheap either!) and I just fell in love with the design. So when one became available, it wasn't too had of a decision.
I can't quite make out the date on that one...15?....

1587... these coins are quite thin and not particularly deeply struck... normally the face is worn off too :P
