thanks for the info, I had never gotten around to checking on this series. I have 3 coins, and always wondered what it would take to complete the set (i personally prefer to have complete sets, just feels incomplete otherwise). Now to decide if I have the $900 or so to get the 7 missing coins or sell the 3 I did get. all a matter of which side of my OCD inner voice I listen to.

@adambur If you only have 3 coins, you're going to need 9 more. The 10 listed above, along with two more from 2013 - American Robin and Barn Owl. You can still get the Barn Owl from the Mint: http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/barn-....Uo7rnuJW3YU@snoopy I think lower mintage as some to do with it, but I also think it is partly because the robin is beautiful. The Barn Owl has the same mintage as the Robin, but still isn't sold out. The Robin is one of the prettiest coins in the Bird Series, IMO. |

I agree that the Robin is one of the nicest. But the Grosbeaks are also very nice coins. Sometimes you look at one and think its your favorite and then look at another and see something else appealing. This is a very nice series for sure.
I am looking for the first 4, Yikes is all I have to say. But congrats to all who have them!

I, too, need the first ones in the series. I only started buying from the Mint a couple of years ago. And I actually started my Bird Series by buying the Chickadee and Barn Swallow from ebay just before the RB Grosbeak came out. I've bought all the others from the Mint, since. I picked up the Blue Jay, but need the first five. Right now, though, they are just TOO expensive for me. Out of my price range. Maybe next summer, after classes end again, I can save up some money to pick a few of these beautiful coins up. I love them. Do you guys think any of the newer releases will appreciate in value? I know my Chickadee and Barn Swallow have raised in value even since I've bought them. I generally just buy for the design of the coin, but it is exciting when you have a coin that increases in value. Not that I would ever sell any of my coins. Ever. |

@wlouison, ahh, you do have a little bit of the appreciation fever, Lol. That's ok, it's normal. I think these will do well, they all seem to be well received. Maybe now they will start decreasing the mintages on some. That always makes it more interesting, as people want to complete the series.

Well, I'm never against coins going up in value after I've bought them. I just don't buy with that intention haha
And I wouldn't mind a smaller mintage, as long as I still get one. haha I wonder how long they can keep this series going.

I know of a couple people who weren't impressed with the Owl because "it's not really a bird" but I love that one. Actually, I love them all.
As for all the birds out there....hmmm....I get your point. ;)

The issue with the owl for me is the lack of consistency in the series. It's the only one with a visible backdrop image and simply doesn't follow with the design of other coins.
Some people seemed to be stuck on the limited presence of barn owls in Canada but for me, if it lives in any part of the country and has feathers, it's a bird of Canada.

On the bright side, with global warming, we should get more bird species coming further North so we can claim them and continue the series longer!

That is true about the barn owl. Nearly the whole coin is coloured, so I get the inconsistency argument. But it isn't an ugly coin, by any means.
And yes, I agree with your definition of Canadian Birds. ;)
It's freezing in Saskatoon, too. We were still in the positives when November hit (much improvement after we got dumped on with snow in the second week of October and it stayed until May) but now it's been -20 to -30 and only going to get colder. Sometimes I wonder why immigrants chose Canada....it wasn't a good choice climate wise 400 years ago, and it still isn't a good choice. XD
