I can understand the bidding. Anyone who understands the seller conditions on ebay and Paypal knows there isn't a chance that seller gets his hands on the money before the buyer receives and verifies their purchase. Heck, Paypal is likely going to hold it for 21-28 days anyway, whether the buyer gets the items or not. And Heaven help the seller if he doesn't ship the package with strong protection. I'd bid. And I'd pay with a Paypal-linked CC, adding the option to dispute the charge should it come to that.

Sold @ $7,100 -
I did try to ask about insurance & got no reply, my guess is that he may ship w/no ins. on the item (scary).

I totally agree with SsuperDdave. If this is what I am looking for and have the money to do so.... double protection from PayPal + CC + ebay 14 days standard return policy. UNLESS I don't take the time to inspect and verify the set when it arrive, I should have an upper-hand as a buyer! 2% ebay Bucks + 1% CC reward and you have a 3% discount on your purchase price. With all that mention, IT IS still a HIGH RISK transaction and NOT for everyone!

Obviously you all don't know how ebay works. This run run run thing is hysterics. SuperDave hit it on the head. No way does that sale go through if the buyer comes back with a complaint. And there is a hold on that money for 21 days as mentioned. That's the SOP for new sellers, which this person obviously is. ebay is skewed for the buyer, not the seller. And I guess everyone commenting negatively posted THEIR first item on ebay with a couple hundred feedback responses under their belt already eh? And if I have never sold anything on ebay, but I get this valuable coin set in a will, but I don't want it, then yeah, that is going to be the first thing I post on ebay. Possibly the only thing I ever do post. There are plenty of reasons for someone to be selling something that valuable for their first item. I see no risk at all given the protections in place for buyers and the final price on it was along the lines of what they tend to go for. Just an expensive purchase.

Sold @ $7,100 - but stayed away. The seller quit ebay right after, sooo I hope the buyer got his item alright & it all worked out.

If the seller is no longer on ebay after selling such an item, I'm guessing it was a scam.

The buyer most likely will get his money back, but he wasted his time bidding on a scam deal when he could have bid on a legitimate auction. And he'll probably have to wait some period of time before Paypal refunds his $7100 bid.

I saw that there was an another exact item also currently for sale and current price is $6,950.
edit
2nd seller does have 100% satisfaction rate and will close the auction when the bid = $7,000.
Close but no cigar ------------ yet
my wife would surely cut me off if I bid that much on anything....................

For the record, I had 32 feedbacks as a buyer (@ 100%) over the course of a year before I sold my first item on ebay (a used DVD, for $5.01). I sold a collector car on ebay two years later, but I would never bid on a car if the seller had zero feedback and was new to ebay. So by the time I sold my first big-ticket item, I had 100% positive feedbacks and I had been on ebay for three years.
