I know it is the thought, but I'm not convinced it would work. I have purchased some very nice $5 ancients, but I have to really work hard to find them. Most $5 ancients are coins most here would not really want IMHO. But it is the thought, and I don't want to be seen as a Grinch. My first thought is to say no. Sorry.

It's a nice thought, but I don't think $5 would be enough. I have to say no also.

i think jw is right, I don't think most people would be pleased with their 5 buck coins. I just did a mini-ebay test window shop and saw some I would like having, but I'm on of the true "bottom feeders" here..i think most would toss them in their cull bag.

maybe we could have a smackdown style contest were we buy ourselves a 5-10 buck coin for christmas and see who does the best? that we we know we get a coin we like....i know I've bought myself some very nice christmas presents.

First thing that comes to my mind when thinking of an ancient santa is Postumus. He sure look jolly on his portrait, but not sure that he was in real life

I like chrsmat71s idea better than secret santa ^^

Did Postumus release coins after he was dead? If so I should purchase some posthumous Postumus's...

I suppose a smackdown is a better avenue. It was a thought, I thought everyone would love the 5 dollar coin they got. Oh well. The smackdown idea is good, what about the life time of St. Nick. 270-353 ad. That would be cool.

Smackdown is a great idea - especially something cheap (so the rest of us can enter!).

I like the secret santa idea but I reckon most people here dont have a Sub-$100 section on their collection!

Self-santa sounds interesting.

The only coin I bought last month was a spectacularly ugly, low quality quarter follis that had been mis-attributed by the seller as a rare(ish) follis. For some reason didn't double check it, had other things on my mind and didn't realise until after I had paid for it

Hunting down $5-10 coins can be good fun.

I like the idea, but hunting down coins during a season of traveling is pretty difficult.

Make it a month long smack down, plenty of time for all. Ideas were starting to get thin and a bit samey tbh, maybe a bit of a break will help. We may also be getting another season of guess the price around the holidays if Jango has time
