I like the color on the 74 personally. The reverse is particularly beautiful.

I fell on the other side of the fence and went with the 1874 before reading the first reply.
1) Better eye appeal. 2) Nicer toning. 3) What appears to be a scratch above the shield and through LIBERTY on the 1873. 4) Seems like better than a 3 point difference in the grades.
Just my preferences but I look forward to others opinions.

The 1874 looks closer to original toning. The 1873 I would guess has been dipped and retoned.

The '74 is the one I would keep. Both beautiful coins however.

Wow, though choice. Both are great coins. Think I would go with the 74 if I had to keep just one.

I find the scratch/crack on the 1873 Half's shield distracting. I prefer the '74. Nice detail and toning on both, though!

I prefer the overall look of the 1873 but would keep the 1874 because of the higher grade/value.

I would go with the 1874. To me it has better eye appeal and I already have an 1873 arrows so I would want a different date.

I usually like lighter coins but in this case the women's face on the '74 in more attractive so I would go with her.

I prefer the 1973 and would keep that one. Either way, you will win!

Nice detail and toning on both, though! All of this.

I prefer the 1874, it oozes originality. I prefer all my 73 & 74's with the CC mintmark though! I don't think you could go wrong with either choice.

I prefer the 1873, I just don't like the darker areas on the other, but they are both nice coins

Thanks all - I was leaning towards the 1874, which does appear a little bit lighter in hand than in the photo. I had actually forgotten about the scratch/crack on the shield until I posted this! That definitely moves me more towards the 1874.. I also now find myself trying to move more towards a phase of good looking coins with more originality to them, and as Prethen pointed out, the 1874 seems to fit in better with that.
