Good deal! Numismedia has a fair market value of $830 for an 1894 in G4!

I saw that online but wasn't sure what that meant.

Congrats, That's awesome! I'm glad it came back legit for you, and sending it in really was your best option. Wow.. What a coin to find! If you don't mind me asking what did the grading + shipping cost you? Wow.. Wow... That is one heck of a find along a path! Whomever dropped those was one upset cookie! Lol. What Mac meant is that numismedia.com is a pretty generally accepted price guide to find fair market value, although actual selling prices tend to be less than listed. If you want to see what 1894p PCGS G-4's have been selling for you could check completed ebay listings, I looked quick but didn't see any slabbed PCGS G-4's.. But I'd guess if you sold it you'd get conservatively between $730-$800.... Probably closer to $800, or possibly a bit more depending on the buyer etc, like I said I'm just giving a general idea. Very nice coin!! And again, just an amazing find! Truly once and a lifetime!!

Thanks The charge was $35. Took longer than expected but it was worth the wait. I found some on ebay for $825-850 for a similar price. I just hate the ebay fee lol I will decide what my next step is soon

Thanks guys.....I found an old antique shop near my house that had a good amount of coins. I looked at a few coins but didn't buy any because I didn't know what to look for.
question.....what are must have coins, years things like that to have that are worth buying? later I might start or search for a similar post.

Jonesh, Sounds like you are thinking about keeping that beauty find. Do it! If you want to get into collecting; pick up a Red Book. you can also browse online: https://whitman.com/redbook Also, there a re a bunch of other books specific to the types of coins you want to collect. The humans here can recommend them At antique stores, you are going to see most stuff raw (not in a slab). If it is slabbed, check who graded the coin and buy from one of the big three (PGCS, ANACS, NGC). They have serial numbers and can be verified on their sites. Bottom line, read lots, both here and in books. Find someone who will take you under their wing (coin club in your area? reputable dealer? a friend?). Keep a level headed approach (try and shy away from impulse buys, and research the poop out of stuff) and you will not be burned. Good to see you have caught the bug! -Jay
