I wouldn't jump ship because silver has gone down a little. It will likely go back up. If you are desparate for money then sell them at the LCS, otherwise on this site or ebay may net you more. |

was thinking ebay, but theres selling fees and paypal fees, I'm leaving for new york in 2 weeks and ill be gone for 1 week, depending on prices after I come back from new york ill sell, or not sell, my local jewelry shop gives a lot more than I thought and did my own calculations, I wouldve lost 20 dollars selling to them than doing it online, not bad for quick cash right up front without the hassle of selling online |

The numismedia price guide is a good indicator of key or semi-key dates. I don't know about the black book. Either way price guides only tell you which coins are slightly more valuable than others. The prices are not necessarily reliable.
When I sold silver a few years ago I called at least five numbers from the phone book. This was before all the 'we buy gold' places were in business. Tell them what you have and ask for a price (usually a multiple of dollar value). Call coin stores, pawn shops, jewelry stores, etc. In my case it was worth it to drive 15-20 miles away to a jewelry store.
There is a lot to be said for a quick hassle free transaction.

ill call around and see what rates are around me, its not a whole lot of silver I have (about 12 quarters, 3 dimes and 3 halves and a silver eagle)

Sounds like you have about $125 just in silver value there. The jewelry store or pawn shops will not give you even close to that amount of money.

Don't take it to a jewellery shop. Think about their turnaround. They don't (Usually) sell coins, therefore, the exposure to their clients is very limited and they don't have a market for it. They do, however, take scrap to their refineries when they have enough, so they will not give you as much as a refinery would give you. If you're that desperate, cut out the middleman because a jeweller has better things to do than to sit on some coins for an unknown period of time. Take it to a coin collector if you want the collectors' value. If you don't want to do the legwork, then take it to a coin dealer who actually has a market for these kinds of things.

is there an upcoming coin show near you? there should be dealers buying coins. If all your coins are 90% silver, their spot silver value should be about $130 but you may not get that

yeah, I just calculated $150 (give or a a couple dollars) with my silver eagle, ill call the coin shop thats about 20 minutes away and see what hes offering to buy silver coins for

There are no fees selling on this site, so whatever price you and a buyer agree on, is what you get. A payment method is agreed upon between buyer and seller. I have done cashier's check, postal money order, paypal, and traded face value coins for the item(s) being sold. Some sell for spot price, and the seller covers the shipping. Some sell for a little above spot price to include shipping fees. Take a look at the items being sold to get an idea on how its done. |

cool, thanks, this might actually end up being a lot easier when you have direct contact between buyer and seller unlike ebay |

I recently "sold" two small dollar coins to another user, for $2 (in essence, traded 2 small dollars he didn't want, for 2 small dollars he did want). We each covered our own shipping costs.
