Tjmcman, if you follow the link above, you will get to a detailed tutorial on how to use Photobucket, as well as post photos to CCF. Here's a pic from that tutorial showing the tags surrounding the URL for an image:

Does CCF really get charged for that?

Okay, the downside...

The photos on CCF will never be deleted, however, we have no control over third party sites. Take a stroll through some older threads and see the missing images.

CCF has a photo gallery available to valued members. Different server (and separate login required) with no size limits.

I remember hearing that it does add up when a lot of pictures are posted to a thread that gets hundreds of views--I've been a member here long enough to read that several times. Traffic to a site usually contributes to the fee charged by web hosting companies.

That's good to know! I also know that Flickr does not delete pictures, even if the user membership has expired.

Pictures on offsite storage don't need to be deleted completely to make the links here dead; if you or the admins of the photo website reorganize or archive the albums such that the URL for the pic changes, the links posted here expire, too.

I never use photobucket or other offsite photo hosts, and would never recommend anyone else use it. If the direct download-into-post is too awkward or restrictive, try the CCF Gallery jbuck mentioned instead.

So I guess I was a bit too subtle in my OP--if you use a lot of non-numismatic pictures in your posts on CCF, it's probably better to use the bandwidth of a free site such as tinypic or photobucket. I sought confirmation in my OP, because I think people have taken 'vacations' by abusing CCF image hosting--and I'm trying to spare people the trouble.

And regarding offsite photos getting dead--well, it's never happened to me unkowingly. Flickr does not change the URL of pics unless you change privacy settings or actually replace the picture. Personally, Flickr is great for a lot of reasons, including 12 different sizes, and a host of ways to organize your pictures keywords, sets, galleries, etc. So yeah--I'm sold on it for ease of use and flexibility. That's all I have to say on this subject.

In 99% of the cases the 100K limit is just fine. People just need to be educated on photo editing....

Something wrong with these?

Closeups are just fine within the limit too...

Although my exposure is limited, I have to agree, Flickr is pretty good.

But let me be be honest... this is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of CCF or its owners... Photobucket is the worst thing to use here.

No, they have been given vacations for posting images that have no place here, regardless of what server is dishing them.

And that's after being given FIVE chances.

Oh-ok, I stand corrected! I was honestly trying to figure out what had happened.

Images are permitted in posts within reason. Obviously photos of coins involved in the topic are always allowed and encouraged. Extraneous images other than the occasional smiley, happy birthday image, or similar are frowned upon and subject to removal. The staff reserves the right to remove any image, at any time, for any reason, with no explanation required.
Gotcha! I guess I've never had any real confusion over this rule.

Probably because it is your nature to remain focused and relevant.

Anyone with more than 50 posts can request one. Way, way back when you made 50 posts, you'd have been sent an e-mail outlining what to do to get a gallery account. But basically, you have to request an account there be set up for you.

Your post qualifies as a "request". I'll flag it for the admins to see.
