I love #3... awesome design. #2 would be a close second for me. As a non-Arizonan, (I have visited), the Grand Canyon and cactus are things I always remember/associate with Arizona, so I would like to see either of those designs. Very cool website, thanks for the link!

For the Zonies out there, here's the updated URL: http://www.azgovernor.gov/azquarter/QPoll.asp

Remember, voting is a privilege, not a right. Vote early and vote often! (Oops, isn't that on the Chicago quarter? )

Just my honest opinion, but all of the quarter designs with the exception of #2 have the look more of commemorative's. I do however like all of the designs, especially #5. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. BTW, it seems from the link that they are accepting the "poll" with no limitations on what state you are from. I was under the impression this was an Arizona only questionnaire?

What I'd like to know is where is the roadrunner? There should be one on at least one of the choices, but I guess not. It's one of the first things I think about when I hear Arizona.

I saw one this morning... roadkill. They're all over the place around here. Maybe the designers decided to leave them off the quarter since they cause a lot of accidents when they blitzkrieg their way across the roads right in front of vehicles. I've got one living around my place and I have yet to get a good any picture of it since it just won't sit still for more than 0.01 second. Besides, I'd rather see a rattlesnake (preferably a sidewinder) if a quarter is gonna show any wildlife.

I also voted for #3. The Grand Canyon gets enough publicity, isn't really representative of Arizona (IMNSHO) as a whole, and is too touristy.

Since I live in the desert which more closely represents AZ (again, IMNSHO) and the quarter has a good portrayal of the desert complete with Arizona's iconic Saguaro cactus, I think #3 is most appropriate. Of course, folks should know that it's the kiss of death for anything for which I vote, so one of the others will likely win.

Yeah, it appears that way - anyone can vote. And can vote as often as they want. I don't see how they could lock out non-Arizonies since so many folk have dynamic (floating) IP addresses which don't necessarily represent their actual location - since I'm on satellite, my IP leads back to Maryland.

Just to see if I could, I voted a second time and it went through. No nasty pop-up windows threatening me with mortal danger for vote tampering. I suspect this poll is more of a publicity and PR stunt than anything that will actually lead to a decision on the quarter's design.

As the artical states:

A Napolitano spokeswoman says the governor will take Arizonans' suggestions seriously but that she ultimately makes the decision

I hope #3 wins

I live in Scottsdale and no design would be complete without the most common critter found around these parts this time of year.
Where's the picture of the ubiquitous "SNOW-BIRD" ?
After all, they pay the rent...

FYI: I'm for #1, because we're just grand.

Avery, a warm welcome to the forum and to another Zonie!

Technically, I'm a snowbird since I live in the desert in winter (LaPaz Co, not near anywhere but in the middle of nowhere), move up to the mountains (Prescott, then Coconino National Forests) in summer. The coin designers are more than welcome to use my portrait on the AZ quarter as representative of a snowbird - I can guarantee that folks would much prefer to circulate the coin rather than collect it. Anything to get rid of it! It would get all those quarters into circulation rather than hoarding.

Here in Mesa the best thing about the snow birds leaving is you can get into a restaurant, however I do miss them when there gone.

I live in a tiny RV semi-boondocking park in the desert - 40 units (30 occupied) on 40 acres (we're well spread out, not packed tighter than sardines - see https://goccf.com/t/13388 which includes a pic of my park). The real snowbirds have mostly left for cooler climes (Alberta, NH, MT, WA, OR, Quebec, OH, NY, ND, etc) leaving the rest of us, mostly fulltimer RVers with easier access to the showers and laundry. I love them all, but they bring their home habits with them, especially lack of sensitivity on water usage - four loads of laundry per week for two people is a luxury our ground water supply can't afford. But laundry seems to be an obsession with some women. I'm the park's water system operator, but I can't seem to get the notion of water conservation across to them; it is not necessary to wash a towel or pair of blue jeans after one day's use. With total rainfall about 2" since last September, none of which made it into groundwater levels, our wellwater level has dropped another two feet in the past year. [/soapbox]
