I actually told myself to make a better effort this year to scan the ground while walking. :}

I always look for free money on the ground!

As far as collecting at amusement parks, my sister works at Disney World and she has a very nice collection started. She has gotten wheats, silver, Buffalo nickels, IHC's and she even got a Half Dime at work.

Yeah.....why not? I've never been too proud to bend over and pick up a penny!

I used to watch for any coins on the ground. Now after to many operations I find that even if I saw a dollar on the ground, it would just have to stay there. Can't bend over without falling.

Why not?

I've been given over $5 in change at one time by other kids in my class as they don't want to carry change below a quarter!
The last time, a silver dime and a 1950 Cent was in the group

Nothin' wrong with that - I am 5'1" and one of the taller members of my family with regards to the generation above me. Apparently all my aunts and uncles got the memo to procreate with taller stock...my parents not so much.

DEREK: Your story sounds normal to me.
If someone wants to walk throw away pennies, or even if its lost by accident, I would 100% pick it up~~
I always look down & would never be ashamed or pass up any FREE CHANGE sitting on the ground regardless who is around!!
I frequent the local pawnshops often & always hear flack from my buddies about the "low lifes" that go there, but I could care less as sometimes walk out of there with some nice coinage & or other collectable!
But come springtime here in Canada, it's a great time to scope/check out the bus stops, playgrounds, fields & even check out the "snow dump"(where ever the bulk of the snow was moved to from the roads & piled over winter)...
I also check where the kids played & skated & or the walking paths used over the winter months, but especially the MALL parking lots, school grounds & even the BANKS parking lots too!

I ALWAYS look at the parking lot whenever I am at the store. In a local shopping mall I have found not only coins over the years, but one time I found (28) $1 bills next to the curb in front of the electronics store. The same lot also produced an unscratched lottery ticket that I ended up winning $10 from. Jackpot!

When I was a kid and we went to Disney World I would chat up foreign tourists whenever we were sitting down for a break. There were some lovely older Englishwomen who were quite amused by me and gave me a few pence, and a Mexican woman who gave me a few pesos. I remember there was more, but those are the ones I specifically recall.

wow, so it is still possible to find great stuff on the ground? Thanks for all the responses guys, and making me feel like I fit right in - it wouldn't be right if I was the only one looking at the ground lol. The biggest find I ever had on the ground was with my stepdad, when we found a $5 bill on the ground, while we were walking into a papa johns to order pizza. It is ironic because we felt so lucky, and we thought they sold us our pizza extra cheap, so we left them a tip, in addition to the $5 we found. Only after we got home did we realize we ordered one less pizza than we intended! Only at that point did he think the pizza wasn't so cheap. Ah, good times...

Oh, forgot to mention. While it didn't happen at an amusment park, I did find a 25 centavos from Venezuela on the ground at the airport before flying to Texas to visit my parents. Always pays to have an eye on the ground.

I am always looking for coins on the ground when I walk (well, almost always). I am never ashamed to pick up a penny off the ground, even if there is a crowd around. One time about 20 years ago we found a $20 bill on the ground in an amusement park. No one else around at that moment. It made our day.
