alot of them were worn back them becasue of alot of games and photobooths and beer was 5c

makes sense, so theres a lot of history to this nickel, but yeah, back in 1911 I'm sure a nickel couldve bought a lot

Nice pick up, I have only three left to complete my Dansco, the 86,88 and 12S. Can't wait to put that book to bed.

When the first lines of the New York City Subway opened, the fair was a nickel. Circa 1907.
A nickel would buy a first class stamp and leave enough for a newspaper.
A nickel had REAL purchasing power!

I like V nickels too. I like to buy them in bulk. One day I am going in and buy the local dealer's entire bin. Some of these I sell of course but I pick out the rainbow colored ones for myself. If you like Barber coins but don't want to worry about the volatile silver market, V nickels may be the series for you. The value is pretty constant where many lower grade Barber's have the tendency to turn into bullion when the value of silver is higher. |

I only have a few of the V nickels. I do love them. I love just having a few of each type of coin. Not many of mine are in the greatest of shape, but I'm workig up a very ugly interpretation of a 7070. The V is a good building block coin though. Good find. |

After looking at this thread I decided to go through all my V nickels and was going through the cull coins and found this one below. Guess that mess, what is the year? 1891?  |

certainly looks like an 81, I shouldve asked the guy at coin shop if he had any, I'm sure he did but I wasnt thinking about V nickels at the time, only morgans |

Definitely an 1891. Definitely not an 81, since there were no V nickels in 1881. |

Right, 1881 is a shield. I picked out all the pre-1897 nickels and this one must have been missed.

So after seeing this thread I had to check the bay. I ended up buying one for a buck where you could read liberty still. He had several others that didn't sell,so I offered him 50cents each on the others.
