It does have some tell-tale polishing areas on the reverse, I think it's proof, which are supposedly more common in higher grades than business strkes presumably. PR-63 IMO, but would not buy as PR unless slabbed as such by ANACS or PCGS or early (pre 2004) ICG.

The fields aren't remotely PL, but that sort of satin luster typical of 3CN's and nickel in general. Given the relative rarity of Business Strikes in Mint State, the obvious conclusion is that it's a Proof, but regardless of the relative quality of their work I cannot believe they'd release a Proof with crumbled rims.

So Prethen, do you think 64?

SSDD, I am almost tempted to say let me buy it...but I am on the hunt for the perfect Oregon with commems' help. Argh! The tough choices to make!

If I don't sell it here at the show, it will probably go in for grading so the "question" of proof or business strike is laid to rest.

Having said that, in MS64, the two most recent Heritage examples went for north of $800......

If it's a Proof, then I agree with the above poster who thought it might go 63. I would really need to see the coin in hand to give a better opinion as it can be a tough one. Perhaps someone should send it in to either PCGS/NGC first and then sell it?

SsuperDdave, were you able to sell it or it going in for grading?

Hello Coinskelly. This is actually my coin and it will be going in for submission probably at the end of February. Keeping fingers crossed and I will post the grade and "type" when I know for sure.

Keep in mind - at that point, tights24 and I were suffering from blurred identities.

I never gave a grade but I'm thinking PR63 maybe 64 but the lines on the cheek bother me a bit now, I must have not seen them before.

Looks a bit nicer, but shows little proof qualities and looks almost MS kind of like this coin we're discussing.

Proof or not proof; that is the question.

I am rooting for NOT proof on this one.

Well sure proofs in that grade are half the cost or so of a nice mint state coin.
