I've been setting all 64's aside for the kids.

What exactly constitutes "full" steps? I have also been setting aside 64's from my coin roll hunts. I like me some "Big $$". :-)

Is it only the 64's? Is there any other years that qualify for the 5 steps?
Thanks.

Yes, but some years there are very few, if not, possibly even no known full steps, since the technology(and quality?) for dies in times past has resulted in more Jefferson nickels being poorly struck, thus it is very hard to find FS Jefferson nickels. Startjing in the late 80's, it becomes a little easier to find them, and they are almost routine in the 20000's , as after all this time, the mint has finally gotten it down for fully struck Jefferson nickels. I am no expert, however, so if anything is wrong, may the jefferson experts correct me if I'm wrong. :) I haven't found any true FS nickels pre 1980 personally yet.

I've got a pretty nice looking 1969. It is hard to tell for sure but it looks pretty good. The coin itself is in great shape!

@Kurry... I set the 64's aside because they are from the decade of the 60's. You know...hippies, flower children, and other assorted freaks..Not to mention me. :-) I set aside all nickels pre-1970.
@Snowman...Thanks for the link. Now I have another question. I went to your eBaysites and the first thing that jumped out was the asking price. Do these nickels ever get those kind of buyers? I may need to look a whole lot harder at my nickels! lol I wish your auction had had a visual reverse side of the 5 step.

BTW...I have found that about 3-4% of the nickels I get while CRH are 1964. That's OK by me. Keep em coming so I can look closely at the steps!

I have been keeping just 1965-68, since these are the lowest mintage years of the 60's.

I am also starting to see quite a few 41's for some reason. All of them are in surprisingly good condition too!

Back in about the 70's, I used to try betting people that if they had any Nickels on them the date would be 1964. I was usually right. And to this day you see them all the time.
