Very true Nathan, great animal designs each year from the Alaska Mint dating back to 1989 I believe. I have a few different coins from their mint. They have silver proof set each year with coins sized at 1/20, 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 oz.

I especially like their bighorn sheep design from 1999.

Sil- hmmm I had to read that twice myself because I thought the NZ mint would have done those... but now I see why a ton of German coin dealers online carry that series. You learn something new everyday! Btw I dont own a single Roo except on the gold nugget series that has been discontinued years ago by the Perth Mint so I ended up snagging the 2013 Kangaroos of the world set which features on silver coin from the mint of Poland and one from the royal Australian mint. What really lit a fire under me is I had seen these on the new arrival list from Downies.com and figured I;ll put that on my list for the future. Well, turns out they are not being sold by the Bank of Poland anymore on their web site, Downies is out so I jetted off the the royal aussie mints site and placed an order. https://eshop.ramint.gov.au/2013-Ka.../310256.aspx see link here

I believe Alaska mint has a wildlife series, marine life, eagle series, american wildlife, african animals, iditarod (sled dog series), alaska state (mostly animals) and many many more, and they have silver, gold clad and solid gold... definietly check out there main site. (I thought they had endangered animals too but I can't find it so maybe I was wrong...?) Here's one I have right here, I don't want to open the safe for the others.. It's not letting me optimize the reverse.. Well it lets me, and it's under 100k (like 50k) and I download it, Try to upload and it says its still too big.. Too bad it's the state seal and pretty nice! I'll try again later)

The red fox is also a neat design. I have one of the eagle series, but the rest of mine are wildlife.

I believe they do have the wildlife series (wildlife medallions) with sub categories of wolf, bear etc on top (or below, lol) the regular ones... That was my mistake, I meant the endangered wildlife.. For some reason I thought they already had it or were going to.
Edit- ya I just checked their site and they do have a "wildlife medallions" series, with sub categories below. Maybe it's just how they have it named, maybe it's not technically a series..?

Well, I really have liked this thread.
I was not even aware of this Alaska Mint (thanks to Nathan for those pics) but from the pics you guys have put up they really have some neat stuff I don't know how I have missed them.
finally as far as coins from odd countries, I did notice that many countries have released all sorts of neat gold and silver coins with native animals, like Belarus, Kazakhstan etc. very neat stuff.

We have our animals too, they are beautiful animals, and very nice .9999 silver fractional sets. Need to say, that they aren't "bullion" and the price is high ($180 - $300) per set, but they worth it. Here they are, my favorites: 2004 Canada Arctic Fox Fractional set (ItemID= 160896970337) 2005 Canada Lynx Fractional set (ItemID= 390508478210)

A couple members have mentioned that certain series also include birds and that made me think about the Perth Mint releasing the Birds of Australia half oz silver proof coins. Now, usually if I get something less than 1 oz silver it has to be like in a set. In this case, I broke my collecting rules because they were birds that I really like, the red tailed black cockatoo and the Budgerigar. Both birds featured have color on them with the a silver proof finish. nice presentation also, make great gifts I might add!

I really like the discover australia sets Perth Mint does every year. I have been getting the 1/20 gold sets but may get the colored 1/10 platinum set for 2013.
