I have a similar coin in similar condition and I would call it AU-50. Beautiful coin!

Well, your grades range widely (between XF45 and MS62), but the strong consensus was AU50 to AU55.

I will say that this coin has super eye appeal and a great strike. I see almost no wear on the high points. The fields are smooth, and there is good luster. I tend to agree with you guys.

We'll find out what NGC thinks with the coin in hand. I'll post their grade here when I get it.

In the mean time, it appears that, consistent with its reputation, the old ANACS graded conservatively. Here's their verdict:

Where's my cigar? lol

It's rare, but I think I might have been the only one to guess low enough!

I'm thinking the rub on the cheek is what is holding it back. Now I'm uncertain if it will upgrade. Best of luck OP. Congrats Prethen!

I see why ANACS gave it that conservative grade. The wear on the fields and face are indicative of a nice Choice XF grade. AU might be possible if there's a decent amount of luster left. If it gets into an AU holder otherwise I think it would be a gift...sorry to say.

Prethen, I'm happy to report that I got a gift!

Seriously, I believed that as an EF45, this coin was undergraded by the old ANACS. My photography skills don't do it justice, but it has nice luster, great color, and very little wear. It seemed to me that it was an example of ANACS' reputation for very conservative grading in the white slab days.

Most of you placed it (as I did) as an AU, from 50 to 55.

NGC agreed, grading it an AU55! I think I'll keep watching for those old white slabs.
