I will have to say XF45. Still alot of detail, I wouldn't be surprised to see AU. I love the patina.

Well, Here it is. I think ANACS over-graded this one a bit so that's why I wanted to get the opinions from the coin community. There is some nice underlying luster hidden in the toning that you can't tell from the pics. The price was right and those 1876 20C pieces are difficult to find in any grade so I jumped on it. I think the 76's are harder to find than the 1875-CC's but the price for the latter is much higher.

Well slap me silly, I haven't been that off (VF35) in a long time! Shame on me.

I should track all the TPG grades against what I think from this forum and see how my percentage is on average, I'd say this one must have knocked me down a lot.

HippieOutcast, you win my admiration which is absolutely worthless.

Westcoin, don't feel so bad. It's a hard coin to grade and the dark toning and pics made it more difficult. As stated, with the coin in hand, I think they overgraded it and I don't think it would cross-over. I think they based it on a weak strike. Even with that, I would grade it XF-45 but it goes to show how subjective the grading process is.

...and this is when ANACS was supposed to be "conservative" in their grading.

I like it; both for the condition and the DATE.

Thanks for sharing!

Even at that grade it is still a very attractive piece. I have a 1875cc ANACS VF45 on lay away at my LCS which will make a nice upgrade to my 7070.

Looks overgraded to me. I would have guessed VF30. But, the coin has a great original look to it.

It's a nice coin but I agree that ANACS overgraded it. I'm thinking XF-45.

Okay, now I don't feel like I missed by so far after Prethen and Moe145 made their comments. I sure wouldn't ccall this one AU but I could see EF40/45 even. In an older ANACS holder though, I must say I'm surprised at this grae of AU. Good test on a seldom seen coin in higher grades here, thanks for posting it, it was a good test.

I said it was overgraded but if you saw it in person, I doubt you would call this VF-30 or 35. I think that's due to poor pics vs. poor grading at ANACS.

From a foot away in you're hand under lights I bet that coin has a thick glazed patina And I bet that's what the grader saw
The pics up close took that experience away causing my guess of ef45, I didn't see any luster
I would like to offer my opinion that any guesses in the VF range seem quite off to me, this Coin has much better looks when compared to archived online auction examples

Anyhoo, sweet coin
I'd swap ya for it
