Most common what? Circulated, BU, Gem BU? Most below AU55 run 5 - 8 bucks for 1965 - 1967.

I love the USA 40% half dollars because they are cheap silver and look nice. In Canada, I can often find them for under $2.

I usually look up the melt value on one of the silver conversion web sites and go from there.

Yes, 20 coins in a roll. My rule of thumb is $5 a piece on the 40% halves, for nice one's, but I'm a fan. Melt on these is $4.63 today.

My coin roll hunting statistics tell me 1970 is the hardest to get, followed by 40% 1976, then walking liberty, then franklin, then 1964,then 1965.
I would buy 40% all day for 2$ each.

Ummm, 2 bucks a coin for 40% silver? Okaaaaayyyyy, considering that is HALF of melt value, you need to go to whoever is selling them for that much and buy every last one they have, because sooner or later they are gonna wake up.
As I said, the 70D is the key as it was only produced for the mint sets, so yes, it is the hardest to just find. Same goes for the 40% 76 Unc and proof. Only made in special sets and not for circulation.
seal, as mentioned, melt on 40% coins is 4.62 according to (124) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed . So the closer to that price, the better your deal. IF you actually get UNDER that, you got a literal steal.

I found it odd/funny how coin stores will only pay 3 to 3.25. Only 70% of the silver value

It is not common for me to find them that cheap! The other day, I found two 1968 in a rummage bin for $1 each!
