They will never disappear. Decades of near worthlessness has them literally in millions of jars.

considering what it cost to make the pennies, plus add in what they are paying to reclaim all the outstanding pennies, then they have to refine them all.. it seems like a big waste of money to me..

I'm picking up 3 boxes of random dates (I assume random) Monday morning.

Well tomorrow is the big day. I am not sad the penny has been discontinued but I am sad they they are going to be withdrawn from circulation and be melted.

I, too, have a soft spot for the penny. Picked up 10 boxes just to put away. Gave a few boxes and rolls a quick check and noticed that they are predominately copper and older pennies. Guess some folks decided to empty out the old jars. If I get the urge, I'll sort a few rolls; might find something good. I also kept my last pennies I received at the store. Going to keep those as lucky pieces. Ok, this is getting too emotional now. Time to move on and pick up a box of nickels here and there while they are still available! Love those bunnies!

This might sound silly, but just wanted to say that if/when I see a penny on the ground, as others walk by & ignore it, I will pick it up and take it home....

My biggest personal regret is I managed to get one year for every small cent except 1966, but I guess I will have to break down and buy the last year on ebay. Unlikely to get much, if any more penny change. My other regret is I am horrified at the thought of all those pennies getting melted down--so many probably rare ones among them.

I got lucky and was able to get 12 boxes ($300) from the bank today. A quick check shows that most of them are hand-rolled. I'm looking forward to many months, and possibly years, of roll hunting for dates and varieties. I don't think I'll find much, but I did manage to find a 2006 no p no logo magnetic in very nice condition a while back. Maybe one or two more of those will be in my many boxes (actually, I have about 18 other boxes of pennies too).

I went to the bank next to my gym, and got 2 CWR boxes, quite satisfied. After looking through them, i'll be dumping them at another branch

I'm pretty sure that I have at least 1 extra in AU condition, that I would be happy to send to you for free.
