Ya, the liquid Mercury, it sticks to silver, My uncle gave me a dime that had been coated with mercury,,it make them extremely shiney for a time and then they turn black as the mercury oxidizes,(sp) He was a big wig at a mercury mine, its that dime that sparked my interests in coins when I was a boy,, I still have it ,,

Yeah the application of Hg onto Mercs was not unusual. Hg binds with the silver to form an Hg/Ag amalgam (think dental fillings). Mercury does this with most metals (except iron and platinum).
As Hg dissolves metals when it combines with them, I'm wondering is it the mercury oxidising or the silver? I thought Mercury Oxide was red or yellow?

When I was 10 (in 1970), I looked up this coin in the Red Book. In BU condition, they had this coin listed at $550 and for me, it could of been $5 million dollars. Anyways, after collecting on and off through the years, I finally got my hands on it and I will keep it for years to come. Download Attachment: 1909sVDBMS63BN.jpg5.62 KB

I love coins a whole bunch and my favorite changes with the setting sun. But today it's a bronze ancient from the Greek City-State of Thrace. It dates back to about 600-650 BC. Why this one..? It's not real expensive, $10.00, or so. I think it's the history behind it. We've come a long way baby...! catman

Gosh Catman, I thought you were my buddy? Seems to me you have been awfully quiet lately? What have you been up to? And, NOW you are sweet talking Susan for a Bust Half! What WE won't do to put another coin in the old collection? Been there and done that! Now Susan, REMEMBER our open invitation for you, Bobby and ND to come live here in the HOOSIER state and WE are closer than Vegas! You and your coins WILL always be welcome here!

Well, since this coin comprises my ENTIRE "collection" right now (which is the only one that isn't considered "inventory") I'd have to say that this is a "cold dead hand" coin as Stujoe calls it.

Easy, a 1921 Morgan in AU!
It was my son's very 1st coin that he proudly purchased some 15 years ago. I still can remember how excited he was and him hurrying across the hall to show me his discovery. That day that coin dealer became his newest friend and for the next few years he always made it a point to purchase a coin from him at every show. He has grown up and moved on now and doesn't collect coins but I will always remember how much joy it brought to him, and how proud I was that day.
