Fat Freddy, as denco noted, the Buffalo has four 9's.

Love this thread but I;ll only be able to answer part of it lol
I hope proof coins were included in this thread btw lol
1- Proof Gold American Eagle 1 oz- lower mintage
2- Proof Gold American Buff- lower mintage.. again
I would love to buy a Krugerrand but It has to be proof, which is a hard thing to do especially wanting current years. I know it sounds picky but that's how I Am, I want my coins to be current, and proof. (The one exception I have made is the Somalian elephant coins) The same with the gold maple, I would be interested but I haven't seen current proof gold maples.
The next runner up to those two, is.... I would buy a gold Panda because of lower mintage and its proof like finish. Tho again, I would prefer a gold panda proof over the regular edition.

Maple for me, although all are very nice coins. Krugs used to have the lowest premium but Maples are about $10-12 lower now, at least at Goldmart.
Cheapest gold coin per oz. of gold are the Mexican 50 peso coins at spot $15. They are 20% higher in gold content than the 1-oz. coins so are around $2035 each. On a per oz. of gold basis, they cost less than the 1-oz. bars.

1. American Gold Buffalo - .999 Pure 24k (My #1 Favorite) 2. Canadian Maple - again, .999 Pure 24k 3. American Gold Eagle - 22k and mixed with other metals - but makes up for it in weight. 4. Krugerrand - Same 22k - but has been around forever.
I own all of the above. However, if I were starting out and spending this much on 1 oz of Gold. I would want my first one to be in its purest form and that is why I bought a Pamp Suisse 1 oz.
Good luck!

Maples all the way not just because I'm Canadian either. Gold really does shine different when it's free of copper. And aesthetically a younger queen and one of the best designed piece of greenery on a coin is much nicer than a grouchy Indian head and wrinkled cattle.

I don't like the 1oz size for gold, but the .99999 Maple Leaf (in card, any year) is an exception to my rule :) Following that: Buffalo Eagle Kruggerand

Quote: thinking about getting a gold britannia Finally! I was wondering why the Britannia wasn't getting any love. As far as appearance goes I think it's tough to beat. Was looking at buying AGE or Krug but after being exposed to all the other bullion coins the Britannia might bump one of these two down the list.

No one has mentioned the Australian gold nugget or Kangaroo coins. They are legal tender, and .9999
The only bullion coin I have is a 1oz. Pt Koala. (.9999, $100 legal tender). I bought it because I liked the design.
