Okay thanks. I payed around $60 for the coin so I am pretty close to your price estimate.

with VF20, but I think 50$ is about what this coin would fetch on ebay. Personally, the missing motto letters will keep me from bidding on this coin.

Not sure about the value but it is a nice coin in a popular series. Are you planning to start a Capped Bust set?

I also think this is a VF-20 coin.

IMO, this is an Overton-122 (R1).

Understandable, but the loss of portions of E PLURIBUS UNUM is pretty common during CBH mintage.

Here's an O-122 from Coinzip.com/Proboards owned by Halfnuts:

I know it is not uncommon, but I wouldn't buy such coin for my collection. There are plenty of lower grade halfs with full motto:

I would personally rather have a nice example of the coin without the motto than a lower grade coin with the motto.

Am I being unrealistic to think this coin is pretty similar to mine? (without the rim bump of course)

And, not to mention, this one is missing motto letters as well.

Similar yes, but not the same Overton. The I under the T on the reverse does not line up the same and the 3 in the date is not tilted like yours.

Is the Overton just like a variety of the coin?

Yes. Al Overton is the man who first codified Bust Half varieties by die pair, and those varieties are named for him.

1832 is a tough date to get with a full motto. Possible, but you'll find Mint State examples missing motto letters.

You got me interested, so I made a ebay search.
It seems that even in lower grades, most have the motto.

These are the first few results I got:

In 1832 there were 15 Obverse Dies & 16 Reverse Dies used to produced 23 different Die Marriages or Varieties.

Moe145: that's a really neat coin. Is that doubling on the eagle?

I'm new to collecting and I only have 3 bust halves, but to me the letters aten't a big deal. Actually it is things like that which I find interesting about this series. These halves seem to have so much character, defects (or weaks strikes) and all. From an interest standpoint, not just a monetary one, they are tops on my list.

Another great example can be found in the obverse stars on bbddbb10's coin, the way they extend to the rim. You can tell these coins have some history.
