I see you don't have PMs enabled. Would you mind sending me a PM? Thanks!

Interestingly enough, in the province I live, I would get taxed if I bought 80% coinage at a authorized RCM dealer (7% PST). It's actually cheaper to get 999 bars/rounds.

@harrison2, I believe there are only 2 provinces in Canada that do that. I really wanted some 80% as well as peace/morgans, since they are hard to find up here. But the guy at the counter said he would have to charge 7% sales tax, as they would get charged for it as well. really dumbfounding if you ask me. They get a bunch of really nice stuff people bring in.. spoons, bowls, US coinage, and all of it gets melted since its more profitable for them. Mind you this only applies to authroized dealers. But they usually have the best prices for maples/bars.

I love 80%-90% silver period I avoided this tax problem by buying from small town coin and stamp shows and ebay...believe it or not. Bought from sellers living in the same city, met them up and purchased more privately. If you're not a merchant, ebay or not, there's no obligation to collect taxes for your loving gov. In the last 5 years, I got really lucky and acquired mint state, uncirculated Us and Canadian coins from the 10 cents to the dollar/ But I also got "junk" silver.Love it all. Keep stacking

there are many coin shops that will sell you 80% coins without tax, just be sure to tell them you plan to pay in cash.. Not debit or credit card, most will give you a break. I have been buying silver coins for 10 years, and have never paid tax..keep looking you will find it for sale without taxs..

I sometimes run into Canadian here in the states and I find it interesting. My dealer will sell it below spot because not many in my area want it. I picked up some Prestige sets and a half dozen 1980's 50% dollars a couple weeks ago.

Since the premiums on US 90% are rather high now, I think Canadian 80% is a good value. Lower premiums and a few sterling silver coins in the mix. My LCS has been selling to me at 12X face.

The nice thing about Canada 80% in the States AWAY from the Canadian border is that it trades at a discount to its silver content verses the corresponding 90% American Coin. That's not a problem if you are simply buying silver. To some dealers in the States that don't see a lot of Canadian silver its somewhat of nuisance in the since it is as "fine" as the American 90% but they don't want to wait for a big pile of it to make rolls or send it off to Helen Smelter . . . In fact before the bi boom in silver in 2007 I used to be able to buy it at spot or at 90% of spot in the Midwest.

Definitely better markups (sometimes under spot) for Canadian 80% and sterling compared to US 90% at the local LCSs.
I remember going to a local coin show which had foreign silver on display and asking if he had any Canadian. He looked at me, laughed and said "You want Canadian silver?!"
Another coin show, when silver was about $15/oz, I picked up some 63-66 Canadian dollars individually wrapped in plastic for $4.50 each. Evidently the coin dealer was tired of holding them. I could have picked up more, but I wasn't sure why the price was that low.

I buy 80% Canadian silver all the time, primarily because I am Canadian. However my favourite junk silver is 90% US quarters. I find they make for attractive coins when the are smoothed around the edges. Unfortunately it's been over a month since I have been able to find any silver, junk or bullion at my LCS. Everything that comes in goes back out the same day. Very frustrating.
