I think that sounds like the probable cause and I'll bet the number will show up in their system tomorrow.
It sounds like this thing is finally falling into place. Here's hoping how it plays out the way it now looks like it's going to play out -- and quickly, too.

It's not uncommon for tracking numbers not to work on the site when they're first issued. When that happens to me I can usually get the site to show an update if I try late in the evening the same day.

Unbelievable relief. But what is happening, if anything, on the PO end with the original shipment?

Quote: Unbelievable relief. But what is happening, if anything, on the PO end with the original shipment? Beats me! Goldmart told me to go ahead and sign for the package and they would take it from there. I have no idea if they have submitted a claim or are just going to eat the loss.

USPS is just awful. Our mail deliverer gives us other people's mail all the time, and apparently since they are unionized, there is nothing that can be done about it...

Strange that they would ship that many ounces of silver in such a small box. Even with that packing tape, any shift in weight could easily start a tear and then later break through the thin cardboard box. I suspect that is what happened here. I am sure they are insured for this kind of thing. Margins on bullion are way to small to gamble on such a large potential loss.

Barry, did everything work out with FedEx? I'm still holding out hope to see your complete 100 oz collection.

Tracking for delivery on this Friday. FedEx Ground is apparently a little slower than FedEx Air...

w00t!
The package finally arrived today via FedEx. It was a medium-sized box that was extremely well taped up, and inside it was a bunch of solid pieces of styrofoam, and within all the styrofoam was a well-taped Priority Mail box with the silver inside. It took me about 10 minutes to open, but it was worth it.
The only odd thing was that the outer box had two labels on it -- one saying "DO NOT LEAVE PACKAGE" and one saying "SIGNATURE REQUIRED" -- and yet... the driver rang the bell, left the package on the front steps, and drove away 20 seconds later without asking for a signature. I just checked the tracking info online and the status reads, "Left at front door. Signature Service not requested." I don't know whether to blame FedEx or GoldMart for that...
I'll post some pictures as soon as I can, but I wanted to thank everybody for the support and good wishes in the mean time.

All right, here's a picture of what I finally received today: That's a 100-ounce J&M stamped silver bar and a roll of 20 Austrian Philharmonics. And, as requested, here's the new bar (on the left) after joining his brethren:

Glad to hear that it finally all worked out happily in the end. It took long enough, but at least Goldmart has kept their integrity and kept their name clean.
Congrats! BTW, great doorstop collection and great pix!
