I saw copies at a local coin show last year. Not sure who the seller was though.

Yep. A lot of very nice early currency that you just don't get to see in the flesh too often. A good day.

Thanks for the link. Others might want to know that it only about pre-decimals and is a 70mg download.

I purchased my McDonalds a few weeks back. Disappointing to say the least. The info accompanying the silver pre decimal is the same as in my old copy (14th ed) including talking about the jump in spot silver (but it is actually off 60% from 2 years ago). I cannot agree that prices quoted are close to the market for Ch Unc unless you count dipped and other bodybag coins. For example the '56 sixpence is only $235 in Ch Unc and $375 in Gem according to McDonalds but the actual market prices are around $800 (MS65) and $8,000+ (MS66). I prefer Blue Sheet valuations. Not perfect as they can be off 50% from actual sales, still in the ballpark and not 2,000% off like the catalogues

Can anyone please post a link (hopefully online) pointing to where I might be able to purchase Fred Lever's book? I have heard it mentioned on this forum many times, and have searched, but can't find a source.

You are comparing apples and oranges there. McDonalds uses the ANDA grading system and the Blue Sheet uses the Sheldon grading system.

MOR Is it apples to oranges? At best it is comparing Delicious to Golden Delicious. Is McDonalds saying the best (Gem) sixpence in existence is only worth $375? Auction and sales results that I have seen for Ch Unc are higher than that and that $8,000 plus coin was the price achieved last year (well in time for catalogue adjustment). I have a Ch Unc-Gem sixpence and I would hate to think my heirs go into a coin shop and be "graciously" offered the "full value" shown in the catalogue to sell.

If it Isn't slabbed then that is exactly what will happen. The 1956 6d is listed on bluesheet at MS65 = $825 MS66 = $1300. Not sure where you got the $8000 figure from.

Trout, my understanding is that there is only a single PCGS MS66 slab and IIRC Walter has mentioned somewhere that it sold for $8,000. I'm surprised that the step from MS65 to MS 66 is so low. Seems like every time a top of the pops coin comes up for auction it sells for 10X the value of one grade below. Like over 10 grand for a top '57 shilling just a day or so ago.
