The definitive 1984 dollar with the Machin bust is a one year type.

They are both the gottwald obverse. The IRB obverse is the current one we use and looks a little different.

Just to help you spot the differences Shane.

The Ian Rank Broadley obverse has the letters IRB just under the Queen's neck.

The Gottwald obverse has the Queen wearing a necklace.

The Maklouf (Pre 1999) obverse also has the Queen wearing a necklace but the crown has a malteze cross in it.

May as well throw Machin in for good measure.

i get it now thanks unicorn
well I think I discoverd a new type there must have been 2 goltwald head designs used on the royal visit 50c coin as the 2 crowns in the picture are not the same or am I seeing things
in 2000 milleniums coin was the first odverce head of irb and that head was not used on the 2000 royal visit so mcdonald book says so there must be 2 designs for the royal visit by goltswald those crowns are not the same or maybe 3 types as the mcdonald book picture has the crown from the left picture on the head of the right picture I think in the left picture it looks like a crown in the right picture it looks like a tiara much smaller crown

They look the same to me too Shane.

The light is coming on to each coin from a different angle which I think is the reason that they might look a little different. (Lots of light on and behind the crown on the right, not a lot on and behind the one on the left).

They are both the Gottwald obverse. You can see his initial just below the Queens shoulder on both.

,in the ebay listing you got the photo from it looks to me like it's the way the picture was taken that makes the 2 coin look ever so slightly different, the light reflecting off different parts of each coin.

As well as the lighting differences, the fact that one coin is rotated a little also tricks the eye into not being able to accurately compare apples with apples.
