That's one humdinger of a coin! Except for a small 'carbon' spot below the ear, there is very little wrong with this one.
I guess a 67, but I must admit that I am not very good at levels 65 or more.

P65 no problem, P67 more likely

Cool, I have been doing some looking and it would seem that they are quite common in PF65 so that means if I can get a PF67 I will have done well. Thanks

Very Nice Coin. ....not much on telling proofs without being in hand but MS66/67 for sure.

When I get it I will post more pictures, even though my pictures are not the best. Still I am excited to see it...along with the %&^%* CC Morgan I bought.

Well I got this one in and it is AWESOME!

I am thrilled....what do you think of the grade? I think PF67 or PF68. What say you?

Ok I went an bought an unopened 64 proof set today. I looked at 12 that were already opened and not a one of these look in any way similar to the one in question here with the shine/mirror. I made sure it was the proof set and not an UNC mint set.

So now I am more confused than ever. I can not take a decent picture but I can describe the one the thread is about as looking like the sheen on a 80's proof half dollar. The one I got in the new set is in MS62+ condition but it does not have the 'proof' look.

I know the one in question is not a Cameo or anything but why such a large difference?

Here are the pics of what I bought today

Thanks, I really do think I have something special with the proof one in the original post.

I am finding new things everyday and loving this hobby more and more.

After doing some reading I think I know what I have now. Yes, it is a proof but a cameo one, at least I think so now. I am not sure to what degree as that is a whole avenue to learn in itself. However, I was having trouble explaining just what I see and now I think I can explain it. Also I have been trying to learn how to use my camera better.

Nikon CoolPix L810. It is just not made for these types of pictures. I gathered some new photos with and LED back-light and maybe this is better. I am not sure.

Anyhow, any information you can give me on a 64 Cameo, whether this is one or not and if it is, some of the history as to why/how they were made. I mean the 64 proof set I bought looks nothing like this one at all. It is nice and mint state but doesn't even come close to what this one is. I am not trying to be a pain but there are experts on here that I need /desire to learn from.

Is this better? If anyone has this camera and knows a good setting for coin pictures let me know. I use the macro with high 1000 iso. I just wish it had a manual focus on it.

OK folks, back from the show. I found a lot of what I was looking for and then some.

First, I now know for sure that my 64 Proof is not rare, or at least that rare. The Cameo version is out there.

First I will start with one to make you cringe....

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

now, when you are done laughing, here is what she actually looks like when I took it out of that holder..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

I found another one also...this one is the best of he bunch...

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

And here is my original....still nice

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

So I now have three really nice ones....

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

I also got some other goodies...like an 'Accented Hair' 64 in pretty darn good shape..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

And I checked it, funny thing is he had two marked AH and because of this board I showed him that the other wasn't. He was ok with it and gave me a 'regular' price on that one..

And a 1966 SMS DDO half, now this is cool, at least to me....my first DDO..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

Look real close at the G and D in God...

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

And I picked up some more 64 proofs etc, but those three were the best for sure. I also picked up a bunch of other things (65,66,67SMS, 68,69,70 proofs) but the wife wanted this one bad...the color is amazing. I would not call it toned but it is unique for sure and beautiful to boot..a 70s proof...

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

Then a 1965 non SMS that was really nice..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

Then a 1966 SMS that was..well very good at least...

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

And some nice cameo 1970s ones..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

Keep in mind some of the scratches are on the plastic but overall I am very pleased...great day indeed..

Thanks! The Wife loves it. When I get the new air tights, I will take it out and add a photo..

I wanted to get a better picture of the Accented Hair...so here goes..I hate my camera...(maybe the user is the issue)

Well I have answered my own question. Sort of. The biggest issue I had with my proofs was the mirror effect and not seeing it in the proof sets I had purchased.

For example: Here are both of them side by side..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

Notice the mirror with the one on the right. Notice the Satin look of the one on the left.

Same deal, obvious mirrored proof on the right, plain Jane on the left. That is until I cut open the proof set.

What I got was a shock to me. I was trying to describe the difference in words and I was not able to do so. So naturally I thought to put them side by side. Well, I now have my answer..

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

It was the packaging all the time, my proof that I cut out looks just as goof if not better than the one I purchased before.

So all the Kennedy 64 Proofs are mirrored...

Go figure....

Anyhow thanks for all the advise and help. Now I know.....It would be very hard to get an MS68, so back to the original coin in the thread. MS67 would be generous, It is not a cameo, it is nothing more than a normal 64 proof.

Thanks

Cheers!
