Do they come with a free box of peanut butter patties? I hate how the Girl Scouts made those so delicious.

For the previous 4 years I have ordered the MS and Proof verions of the modern commemorative dollars ... Believe I will purchase only the MS going forward ... staring with this one. No real plans to complete a modern commemorative set ... but at least I have the past few years covered. David

Received mine on Saturday as well. I agree with CoinsKelly, the coin does look nicer in hand vs. the US Mint web site image.
It will never be considered a "classic beauty" but it's OK.
PS I'm still working through some computer issues, but will post an image as soon as I get them resolved.

Well shoot... it sounds like the mintage is going to be low based on the 1st week report, and the secondary market is going to charge high dollar for these. Since I am doing my best to get a start on the UNC dollars I guess I better buy this now instead of hoping they would sell cheap later. I honestly don't expect these to be popular based on what I've heard and just the images of the coins as it is. I am glad to hear they look better in hand than the images - I was hoping that would be the case!

So those who are as impatient as I am, if you browse ebay you can see pics of the actual coins. I'm still not a huge fan of the design but I also agree they do look better than they did in the drawing

Hmmm... I did as you suggested basebal and I'm still no fan either. It is interesting that on these to me the UNC looks almost like a low relief in the pictures compared to the proofs. I am sure it is the frosted design that is causing that, but it seems more prominent than I recall on many of my other sets.

OK, "borrowed" a family member's computer to post a couple of images of the new Girl Scouts silver dollar. @Doug58s: I don't believe the relief is any lower for the UNC vs. the Proof version -- it would be a "first" in the modern series if it was -- it's probably just an optical illusion. As I mentioned previously, I think the coin is better "live" vs. the Mint's web site images, but the obverse design just doesn't work that well to my eyes.

I got my 3 in the mail today ( 2 proof and 1 uncirculated ). In my humble opinion, they look "o.k" nothing really special to my eye. I will be more interested when they release the 5 star Generals coins near the end of the month, hopefully those will be better looking than these, anyway I kind of felt I had to get these considering the amount of the dos-si-dos I get every season dos-si-dos > thin mints

I noticed that too and I agree with Commems that I think its more of an optical illusion than anything from the mirrors of the proof and just the design layout of the faces for the uncirc. The design in general looks kind of flat to me. I dont have 2 of them to compare side by side but that would be my guess

Here is a pic of the proof and uncirculated coin side by side, the difference is quite remarkable even with my less than stellar techniques used.

My local coin dealer said he ordered a dozen UNC and a dozen proof of these. He still hasn't been able to sell them. They aren't THAT bad, in my opinion. Definitely a good contrast between UNC and proof in that photo, Craig.

Quote: Here is a pic of the proof and uncirculated coin side by side, the difference is quite remarkable... Thanks for the picture Craig T. While I agree there is quite a difference in the appearance of the two coins, I maintain that they are both struck in the same relief. Any perceived differences in relief are a result of the contrast between the proof's frosted devices and mirror-like fields - the increased contrast makes the design "pop" more than it does on the uncirculated coin which has a satiny finish over all surfaces.
