When this project finishes, do you think we should continue spending 2 dollar bills, and simply post the reactions of the cashiers on here? It'll come faster than you think, believe it or not.

It would be a new thread, of course. I say $100k. Go big or go away.

I've been circulating $2 since before the seal went from RED to GREEN. Now I order $400 (sometimes more) every Christmas season and give them as gifts and SPEND 'em. The looks you get are priceless and when you leave a $10 tip with five $2s it's unforgettable.
Oh, I don't spend the RED seals any longer.

First, in the last two weeks we handed out $1218 in $2 bills at our farmers markets and in making cash payments. This maintains our over $600 a week usage level.

$632 to go....

Second, I will be continuing to hand out $2 bills as part of our regular business practices and thanks to us, when they closed the branch of our bank we bank at, now the main local location stocks them and also half dollars for us. This is leading to more people getting a few from time to time. If there is a restart of the thread, I am not sure if I will keep the updates going as it is extra work. We plan to continue to hand out $600-800 per week in $2 bills for the foreseeable future and a simple calculation of how much per year is over $30,000 just from us alone. If we add more farmers market locations as I desire, it could be over $40,000 per year.
Third, I am keeping handing out half dollars too, at an average amount of about $200 per week. I cannot use the dollar coins as a regular item as customers nearly always pay in dollar bills, but Halves are perfect.

Spent 3 $2 bills along with some half dollars at the beer store.

The woman further back in line said "Do you know much those are worth?"

I said "Yeah, $2. People hold onto them for 20 years only to find out they are still only worth $2. In fact you lose money holding them for 20 years because of inflation."

I traded 2 $2 bills with the guy behind because he was trying to get the cashier to trade the bills I had just spent with him but she was a little senile (didn't count those)

$626 to go.

10 $2's at the store = $20. $626-$20 =$606. Beautiful to see how far along we have come together.

$606 to go.

First, here is the completion of the challenge - in the last two weeks we handed out $632 in $2 bills at our farmers markets and in making cash payments. This continues to maintain our over $600 a week usage level.

$0 to go... as I have exceeded the goal.

Second, I am curious whether any other business owners practicing like us the use of $2 for making change will pop up. That is the key to resurgence of $2 bill usage. The same is true of use of half dollar coins and dollar coins. As I was handing out change at the markets, I still got many admiring comments about how cool the $2 bills and half dollars are. And people saying they had never seen one, never had one, even the Russian woman who was doughtful as to their validity. Only one customer in two days asked for quarters instead of half dollars and no $2 bill receiver objected. $2 bill use will continue!

Oh, for any forum readers who are either residents of or visitors to the San Francisco Bay Area, you can visit us at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco or down the peninsula at Menlo Park, Palo Alto - both markets, Mountain View and Saratoga. My Farm is Heirloom Organic Gardens and we produce vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and some fruit and nuts.... You will stand a good chance of the $2 bills and half dollars in change!
