21 is good for prototype.
May be other people will like this amount of slots.

I think better to have part completed, and to start (or not) new set. This way (few coins) they also manageable: years, themes, like/do not like, keep/give as gift.
Another benefit of the small box: will be less empty slots.

Big box could save a place and to serve as great display.

silverwolf you're doing great work with this box. I have only had a few minutes to analyze the design, but if I come up with suggestions, I'll post them here. For now I would ditto silveroid's comment about the wood scratching the capsule. But I'm sure you could find a way to make the slots big enough to secure the capsule and coin, but loose enough to not cause any major damage to the capsule.

I would purchase 1 or 2 for sure.

the option of the plexiglass lid on top of the wood or under it is easy enough to switch out, and yes color options would be available, as well as getting it unfinished so you could finish it yourself..

this case measure 11-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, also the coins do not fit snuggly into slots, there is a tiny bit of play, no worry of scratches from tight fit.

You're going to give the RCM box designers a serious run for their money. I really like this box.

Silverwolf - I think the plexiglass window with the wooden edging really takes the case to a whole other level. Combine that window with the first picture you posted (the sunken rounded edging) - and you've got something a lot of people would buy. I actually like the rounded corners over straight ones, but that's just a personal preference.

Also, as Panda mentioned, would you have a space for the certificates? Maybe at the bottom of the box, you could hollow out a space that can latch or be opened to store the certificates?

1 spot underneath for COA's would be great.
2 the wood trim on the top would be best IMO
3 some sort of felt or soft material
4 instead of a latch, I'd prefer small magnet inset in the wood, like mint sets.
5 for color I think darker the better
6 (size) I think 3 by 5 or 3 by 4. Of course, as the series grows, you get a new box. I feel 12 would be best.
7 engrave or paint in fancy writing the years on the front or side of the case. There should be 4 this year. It could say 2010-2014 or whatever the years will be.

I really think to sell them for real money, a felt of some kind is a must. You might have to pay someone to do it professionally. Just take that into account when pricing, with the felt, the coins will fit a little more snugly wich would be great.
I think you've done a great job so far, keep up the good work.

Great looking box every thing looks good

Lots of whole is better (4 coins per year for many years)
Felt so my capsule don't get scratch

Price; cost plus rate per hour to make

Example; $15 cost + $30/h labour if it takes 1h30 $45 = $60 + shipping

It's stunning! I haven't been collecting the 20 for 20 coins and this makes me regret not doing so. I guess one could always buy the older ones on ebay...

I'm torn regarding the capacity. Part of me wants a box that could hold all the coins, but the other feels that could get unwieldy. Otherwise I echo Rockdaddy's comments. I also agree with TheOne's estimate of retail price, but suggest a 10%-15% markup of the total on top of materials + labour.

I've really enjoyed looking at the prototype's photos as well as all the constructive comments above.

Great looking box! I would purchase one or two. The only comment I have would be to limit the slots at 12. If the RCM stops this 20 for 20 program, not sure how the empty slots will be filled in.

A finger notch for each coin slot will be good.
12-coins size would be good.
A tray or something under to hold the CoA/packaging would be a plus.
Round-corner is good.

$30+/- is good price range for 12-coins case for standard options.
Extra $$$ for more customize/modification.
Shipping to California will be costly for me though.

May be you should consider/try other standard size coins such as the SML-Wildlife or other series....

I wish the Mint would package a nice box for the $20 for $20 similar to the quality of the current lunar series with a subscription to this set. Probably not enough money in it for them, but it would be nice.

Nothing new regarding this case? Is it available for sale?

Just wondering as I think we're up to 14 coins now, which means you would use the bottom row or additional ones or to display the obverses and duplicates.

Great case, I however would use the case for all my Bird loons from the Specimen sets and all my Silver loons, bird, Olympic etc the case won't fill up quite so quick. To keep it full could always add all the specialty business strike loons and swap them out as the newer Specimen sets become available over the years

OOPs I guess I'm a little late for this one - thread revival
