If anything, that Seated spent a long time in the ground and was then polished so hard it's probably only half as thick as it should be.

The 1846 Seated dollar is either a). a poor quality fake or b). was a metal detector or shipwreck find. Leaning towards fake though.

Polished beyond a doubt on the Morgans... You see Walkers given this same treatment often to try and simulate a higher grade.

The seller wrote back to me and has ended the Seated dollar fake which weighed but 18.5 grams. He was going to check the weights of the Morgans. Apparently, he was victimized when he bought the seated fake.

I just heard back from the seller. He took all the coins to a local dealer and sadly learned that they are all fakes ... including the Morgans! From my perspective, the micro-porosity that I saw on the surfaces was telling. All of the Morgans evidenced that, and I thought, "What are the odds?" The polishing was probably done to help subdue that effect. Note that the seller has ended the " Seated dollar" auction, as well as most of the Morgans. I trust that he'll withdraw the other fakes, too.

Well he has the morgans back up for sale now. He is a dishonest seller and needs to be reported.

LincolnGuy, he appears to have removed most of the Morgans. It may be that he has yet to confirm and/or remove the remaining ones? I'll reserve judgment for a day or so ....

I came late to the party ExoGuy.. I just saw morgans in his store and figured he put them back up. From the close up pictures they all appear to be cast. Thats just my guess though.

Remember, a seller can state "no returns" all he wants, but ebay and PayPal can and will over rule.

The ancient copper piece he has listed is a fake. It is a copy of a silver coin, perfectly round and from his pictures appears to have been struck in a collar. The Seated dollar he "pulled" he pulled as having been sold and the bids were not canceled. So there is the possibility that he ended the auction early and sold it to the current high bidder. (by not cancelling the bids and listing it as sold wouldn't he still be on the hook for the Final Value Fees?)

Yeah the 4 reals looks phony. Where is swamperbob? :-)
Those Morgans that are currently up are polished to a shine, and he has one listed as .999 silver? Quoi?

ebay has become a cesspool for dishonest people (sellers and buyers). It's a real shame for the little-guy who just wants to sell his stuff, or buy an honest product.
