Congratulations scoutjim. I have also been putting it off, not nearly as long as you have.

Good for you Jim. I've been a member for 45 years. I think you will really like the publication. Colorful, well-written, etc. I visit the ANA Headquarters from time to time. Not that tough since I live in Colorado. Hope you see it someday -- it's quite interesting.

Had me worried for a minute. I misread the heading. I thought you said AA. All those comments about putting it off and 'lifetime member' were a concern. I've got to have my nightcap or I'd regards,

If you weren't familiar with it back before they switched to the "slick" format, then yes I will agree. Personally I think the trade off of longer, better written articles for fluff articles with colorful pictures on glossy paper was a step DOWN for the magazine. It used to be a more scholarly magazine, now it is more a general consumption product.

Tpatna asked about dues and benefits. We had a thread fairly recently that covered those items. Anyway, yearly dues is the way I go although lifetime memberships are available for those who can afford several hundred bucks in one payment. Benefits include the publication previously mentioned, a great numismatic library, access to the ANA "store," and VIP treatment at certain events. For example, although anyone could gain admittance to the recent ANA Convention in Denver, I felt I received special treatment because I was a member. And, over the years I have received discounts on many things because I was a member. I could list a few more things, but, as mentioned, the topic was covered before. By the way, unless policy has changed, membership applications are supposed to include a "sponsor." I would be happy to sponsor anyone who wishes to join.

Thanks for the explanation Gary. I must have missed the previous thread on this topic. I think I will look into this more and if I should need a sponsor I really appreciate the offer and may take you up on it.

Steve Contursi of Rare Coin Wholesalers is sponsoring ANA membership for anyone and if you sign up for one year, he will purchase a second year for you, no strings attached. http://www.rcw1.com/m/ANA.php?

I would join the ANA just to vote against the incumbents. Also, if there was a way to get rid of Cipoletti and his pompous attitude. If they got rid of him and returned to the basics I may join. At least Horton is on the way out, along with that horrible rug of his. (Perhaps Horton finally hear a Who.) There has been so much attitude and bad press of late that it is ridiculous, and Cipoletti is definitely not a positive for the ANA.
