I agree with all the previous replies. Leave it as is, put a key on it and carry it daily. Would be a nice pocket piece.

WOW...no one wants to see it freed! I'm surprised but pleased. I was leaning towards keeping it the way it is. ram96, thanks for the link. All those old photos are awesome! I'm going to get a copy of the bank and make some kind of a framed display.

I'm running with the herd on this one... I say keep it.
Hey Denco7... where 'near Worcester' are you? I spent a large part of my youth and graduated high school in Webster, MA; home of Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.

Normally I'd say let it go free, BUT there is "something" about it as is. So.......... Create a new collectors sub forum and give it a "Premium Value" for the "unique"combination of precious metals, numismatics and local historical value. Just Sayin !

That's right, BamaBlue. You fish on your side, I'll fish on my side, and neither of us fishes in the middle. (That's the translation) Isn't Dudly on the opposite side of the lake? I attended Assumption College 1969-1973. Picked up the accent all too easily. bumma is in Sutton.

""Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg"" BamaBlue, Did you remember how to spell that or did you have to look it up?.. I find W E B S T E R much easier to remember..

bumma, I just took another look at your picture. While the key chain is modern, the soldered loop would be appropriate to the time period. At least a hole was not punched into the coin itself. Somewhere in my mess there is an Indian cent in a metal holder which states "Keep me for good luck" or something like that. The holder has wear and would indicate the coin was encased years ago. I would no more try to release the cent than you should try to release the dollar. It's engraving is what makes it so special. Welcome to the world of exonumia!

matthewvincent, I agree.
I'm not real interested in keeping it in a drawer or Tupperware some place nor do I want to carry it around. I'm going to come up with a way to display it with a short paragraph on the history.
I'll post a picture when I'm done.
Oh, and thank you for the welccome!

I readily admit having looked up the spelling, but as a former resident, I the name rolls off the tongue. I'll also admit that we all called it "Webster Lake."
Matthew... no Dudley is not adjacent to the lake; Thompson, Connecticut is the only adjoining town. Dudley is Just to the West of Webster Town Center and the home of Nichols College.

bumma, " I'm going to come up with a way to display it with a short paragraph on the history. " One way to do this is to remove the modern key chain and replace it with a thin leather strap. If you buy a new one a little sandpaper and strong tea will "age" it. Attach the dollar to one end and an old house key, or keys to the other end. Place the items in a 5X7" shadow box. Add a title. Then attach a short history of the items to the reverse. Something like this: As for a catchy title: I saved for my new house at Worcester Federal! Or whatever you decide to choose.
