Wow! What a stunning collection! I am particularly drawn to the Humbert $10. I am amazed how such a coin could have survived in that condition.

I just sifted all eleven pages. Fantastic patterns, aluminium strikes, coins with holes, truly a one of a kind collection.

Heh, seeing the reactions to these coins is quite funny considering that these are Eric Newman's "extras" A portion of his primary collection is in 3000 sq. ft. of museum space at Washington University in St. Louis.

Quote: What is a uniface reverse die trial and why would that process be done? Struck only on one face, as a demonstration of what a design would actually look like on a coin. Lets you evaluate the look of the design, as well as consider how it will wear, especially if the design of the other face isn't certain yet either.

Yes, an amazing man and collection. Here is a quote from Mr. Newman, regarding the coin he most favors in his collection. It is from a Coin World article dated 5/30/11: He said his favorite coin is the gold 1792 George Washington President pattern privately made by Obadiah Westwood of Birmingham, England, from dies engraved by John Gregory Hancock. Newman said it's his favorite because "it's unique â€" only one gold piece was made" and the fact that he believes it was a pocket piece carried by Washington himself. "It was given to him by someone trying to get a contract for minting copper one-cent coins. It's worn, no denomination on it; because Washington rode so many places on horseback the piece was rubbed constantly by his clothes," Newman said. Newman said three silver pieces and a number of copper pieces were struck all with the same design.
