I wouldn't call it a scam. It's someone too lazy to do research.

On at least two occasions I've seen people take BU small Dollar coins to coin shops, thinking they were gold.

No, they almost never circulate and there are a LOT of people who have never seen one. Add to that evey time they are talked about they are called golden dollars and that "en" tends to disappear in peoples minds making them "gold dollars". I too have run into a lot of people who are convinced that they are either made of gold or have gold in them.

XZACkX, I don't know my friend, you said you informed him they were in no way gold yet he re-listed them as such. Imo that changes things as he is now informed, now he's trying to scam people hoping they know as little as he initially did.(assuming he wasn't playing dumb the first time and already knew they were not gold, which is what I think is probably the case).

Very true. I didn't even consider the fact that I actually told him they weren't gold.

I know most people dont see these, but seriously where has common sense gone. I dont see how anyone can play dumb that its not gold when they got it for a dollar or under 5 bucks at a shop and gold is over 1300 an ounce. Unless they play dumb and say theres a single flake in there common sense alone would tell you its not gold.

The hope is that they will quit printing and distributing the one dollar note. However, politics and fear of change prevent this from becoming a reality.

Ahh, yes, I have heard of that but did not connect that with the commemorative series. Thanks for pointing that out.

It now violates the Craigslist Terms of Use, and you can flag it as Prohibited. Like I just did.
